I just received a cheque from Condor (the German side of Thomas Cook) for a cancelled flight in July 2015. Filled all the forms in & sent all the e-mails through Martin's Money & the new Resolver. All pretty quick & hassle free 😀, trouble is, they've sent me a cheque for €400 & because it's in €'s, not Sterling, my bank won't accept it 😕, has anyone else had this problem? And, does anyone know how I can cash the cheque?

Which bank? Most will be able to do it for you but will charge a fee for example I bank with Smile (Co-Operative bank) and they'd charge £8.
  • My wife, daughter and I had a five hour flight delay on Tuesday, 21 July 2015 at Dublin Airport on our way to Savannah, Georgia. The reason: a faulty air conditioning component. We spent a long time on the plane while engineers were attending to the problem because the US authorities were not keen on us going back through immigration. The problem could not be sorted out and we eventually disembarked, staying on the boarding side of immigration. The plane due to fly to Toronto was then made available to us and we departed for JFK. We subsequently missed our connecting flight, but were put up in a hotel by Aer Lingus and resumed our journey the next morning. Needless to say, we were not happy.
Three weeks ago we decided to claim for the delay. I tried Bott and Co, but they only seem to handle cases where the flight originates in the UK. I then tried EUClaim, but their website informed me that I had no claim. I seem to think that when they checked the date of the delayed flight it was not indicated as being delayed. I could find no evidence of the flight being delayed when using Flightstats. I then proceeded to initiate the claim myself using a combination of two online templates and copied and pasted into the online form on the Aer Lingus website. On submission I was given a case reference number, thus knowing my claim had been lodged. Last week, Aer Lingus responded by email to say that we were entitled to compensation of 600 euro each and yesterday we received the cheque for 1800 euro. We just hope we don't have problems banking the cheque here in the UK like someone else seemed to have!

check with your travel insurance to see if they cover anything. I doubt anyone would agree that Easyjet would be liable for EU261
  • Just had news that my claim is going to be paid by Ryanair - had to use claim firm Bott & Co as Ryanair based outside UK therefore European court, more complicated etc but worth pursuing - out of e500 compo due I should receive after commission and fees £228
  • I used the Resolver tool thanks to the MSE site. We claimed for our Monarch flights that were delayed by 6 hours and have received over £800 in compensation. Thank you, the tool really helped!
  • We tried to claim for an Emirates delay in 2010 starting in Newcastle and going to Brisbane. Emirates were extremely unhelpful and tried every way to deny the claim. After much emailing with customer services they grudgingly gave us some airmiles. Shortly afterwards they informed us our airmiles were expiring unless we booked another flight. Complained about that (considering it was a footling response in the first place) and they reinstated them. But to be honest their attitude was so bad we've avoided flying Emirates since. When it came to trying to use the airmiles they were pretty worthless unless you have a gazzilion of them. I would be more persistent in future - use the Resolver tool now available - and not settle for anything less than hard cash.
  • Thomson flight Gatwick in addition the Manchester fight was also delayed by 26 hours.
I followed all the process on this easy to follow website however ran into a brick wall and was informed that I would need to take Thomson to a small claim court. As most people do at this point I thought I can't be bothered with the hassel.
I waited a month and then googled flight compensation and found Blueway flight comp who use Bott & Co solicitors. No win no fee and thought nothing to lose.
Emailed all my correspondence and that was that. I have received regular updates and have just been informed that my wife and I will get £354 each. Cost for this is 27% of claim plus 25 Euros.
As I was going to forget it I had nothing to lose. I will however say that Thomson in Taba looked after us very well.
    Good luck everyone.
  • Yes, I tried to claim compensation. I was 8 hours delayed both ways. I paid for a second flight to actually travel out because I could not sit out the delay on the ongoing or I would have missed my lift at the airport, however I waited out the delay on the return.
I never got the replacement flight refunded, not have I ever received compensation for the 8 hours I sat in the airport OVERNIGHT when everything closed on the return. We couldn't even get a drink as the whole airport just closed down and left us sitting at the gate watching the departure board for news.
Monarch rejected my claim. I've tried the Resolver and as far as I can see they've done nothing whatsoever. They've now said they're going to assume the issue is closed, which is very bizarre since they've done nothing whatsoever to help.
Definitely won't be flying Monarch again.
