Is your OH mad? 2 marathons 2 weeks apart!!!

As far as training is concerned you can get by with 4 runs per week as long as the key elements are there ie distance runs get up to 20 miles, speed from the track sessions and then sustained speed in some other session.

What are you thinking of then in terms of time? Or don't you care as long as you do it?

Prague in Spring sounds good!:D :D Is it flat btw?

OH says if Ranulph Feinnes can do 7 in 7 days on 7 different continents then he can easily do two in two weeks. Competitive? Him?

Seriously, the route is very flat as it pretty much follows the river back and forth. There is an elevation map on the website that gives a height variation of about 10m over the whole course, so I think that counts as being flat!

As for time, my best marathon time was 4:15. That time, I managed to stay with the sub-4hr pacemaker until about 15-16 miles, but then I lost it in the last 10 miles and slowed down. I suppose I would be Ok with sub-4:30, happy with sub-4:15 and ecstatic with sub 4:00, but I'm not sure how realistic sub-4 is on legs a few years older.

I know I said a few days ago that I was happy to just get round but I lied :o .

Thanks for the chocolate Hypno. My favourite! :D

Happy xmas Chick! Oooo I love Prague - good job the marathon doesnt go up to the Castle - that is not flat :D

No choccie for me please Hypno - I'm munching cold ham and crackers - yummy!
  • Rather him than me!

I know what you mean - apart from your first marathon you just cant stop yourself getting competitive with the clock, however much you try not to!:p

You're in the right ballpark, timewise, anyway. You felt confident about hitting 50 mins for 10K and the equivalent marathon performance is around 3-50 as long as the distance runs are done to build strength.

So theres a fair amount to spare to hit 4-15, ie a full minute per mile comfort zone.

I'll knock you together a plan tomorrow if I can - its saved on another laptop!

Hypno - I must be due another choccie by now surely? Got any of those with the runny cherry flavoured centres?:D

That's fantastic, thanks coach. You are definitely right about getting plenty of distance runs in. Last time I think I only did 20 miles in training once, and a few 18-19 milers and it definitely told on the day. I'm under no illusions about how hard the training is but I feel up for it and having the race planned will give me focus.

Ooo £100 goes further than it used to - apparently! I'm not sure whether theres bargains to be had on Garmins but I'm sure there must be somewhere!

Yes thanks, it was a good xmas although I cant eat that much now because the stomach has shrunk over the last few months, so I was well and truly bloated after the first course on xmas day!!:p

4 months is still a long time, especially when you're not starting from the beginning. Just fit it in as you can.

Or you could always have a backup plan if you feel you wont be able to get ready in time - do a half instead and save your London entry for 2010, there should be a few of us in that one!

Yeah I'm hoping to do 2010 :D, but I think you'll be ready - we have faith in you - you just have to believe you can and then the training will feel much easier :D
