Went out about 8-30am this morning for the usual 5k, but instead of turning left at the end of the road, i turned right. Then i had a re-think and thought i would just run round the estate, making it up to a 30min run so therefore about 3mile. At the end of that road i thought it would be good to drop the wife a text at my new revised running plan, which was now to run to the sea side.

45mins in total, and im there, but as i arrive at the pier, the wife arrives, but im still feeling good and feel like pressing on. But i decide to get into the car, we measure the route on the way back in the car, and it was 4.1miles.

I estimated the time to be about 45mins, as the mobile died on me which was timing me.

Im rather tired now, and guess i'll be aching tomorrow...

    Ah well..

So the list goes on, and now it becomes....

    Wk 1

    Sun 7th Dec - Skegness 4.5k fun run in 22m 53s
    Tues 9th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run just under 30mins (non-stop)
    Thur 11th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run 30m 38s (non-stop)

    Wk 2

    Sun 14th Dec - 3.5mile jog / partial run in 35m20s
    Tues 16th Dec - 3.1 (5k) total failure - walked it
    Thur 18th Dec - 3.1mile (5k) in 28mins 47secs

    Wk 3

    Sun 21st Dec - 4.1miles in 45mins (estimated - not timed)
  • The longest run yet, Alias - always a nice feeling after thats achieved.:D

Aching is good too - it means improvement is on its way when all the repair work has been done!

You're certainly getting a routine going so you will see improvements soon enough!:D

    Well done.

Said would push for 5miles next weekend, need to find a route that will keep the mind stimulated, as today when i was running past benches on the side of the road, i could imagine myself stopping and sitting for a little to rest.

Had to stop today to stretch legs off, and that was good too the end, about 1.8miles in, and then 2 short breaks of 20-30secs to get rid of a stitch, mainly walking with that arm up to clear it and away we go again using tree's as markers for stopping and starting again.

Bad news for today though, dont wear thermals when its 8 degrees outside.. you sweat...alot..

alias - that is an excellent step up! Well done - I am sure you will be at 5 miles by next weekend :T

Have a play around with getmapping or mapmyrun on t'internet - you will be able to plan your 5 mile run in advance, then you won't set out to do 5 miles and being disappointed that it is only 4.5, or like I did once, take a wrong turning and ended up lost and walking for several extra miles because I wasn't up to running that far :o

Fork me, rich - that's some good running :)

Got out myself today for the first time since the race last weekend - thought I'd try running before breakfast (only time I could fit it in) - it sucks BAD.

Gave up on my 10k route and ended up doing 5miles in 40:35, so a decent pace, actually, but man was I suffering by the end of it - and have been shattered all day. Just no energy at all...At all...

Hilly golf course yesterday, too - so I think my energy was already down a little...Needless to say I'm "resting" tomorrow again :D

(on a positive note, the weight's started moving again the last 2 weeks - am 9lbs down on where I was two weeks ago, although I think that's a "low", so I guess I'm probably 5-6lbs down really, but all good news)

(why stopping exercising and eating cake makes me lose so much weight is beyond me - but I'm doing it more...:D)

Hi everyone. Hope you are all ready for the holidays and that Santa will be very generous to you.

Am now in Baltimore, Maryland, which is a lot colder than sunny Jamaica and my old hip injury of last November has flared up again so I'm not able to do any running at all. Just about able to walk without wincing, but I'll have to wait til it's better.

Was tempted to ring NHS direct to get advice then remembered what I did the last time (minus physio treatment), so I'm getting on with lots of rest, gentle stretching exercises and painkillers :D . Tomorrow (Monday), I'm off to the local store to see if they have anything similar to Epsom Salts so I can have a soak in the bath. It's a little frustrating as I'd only jogged twice since the marathon and didn't want to lose all my fitness whilst on hols.

Hopefully, by the time I return to Jamaica in 2 weeks I'll be able to jog again :j

Add an extra minute to your runs for me please and, hopefully, I'll be back out on the road before too long. Strangely enough, I'm not eating loads since I stopped running and I've remembered why I'm not that fond of US food (too much salt and sugar  ), so I doubt I'll be putting on any weight whilst I'm here :D

    Take care

poorbabe, nice to hear from you and sorry you are not running. But at least it happened AFTER the marathon not before, so a bit of a rest won't do you any harm in the long run. I have just had a couple of weeks without so much as a plod around the lounge, but managed 4 and 5 miles this weekend without any problem, so the rest probably actually did me some good!

Enjoy your trip, and I'll certainly add a minute or two onto my running for you!

    Happy Christmas!

  • Poorbabe,

Sorry to hear about the injury - but it is true that you wont lose much fitness even if you take a month off. Concentrate on getting it fixed!

If its an old injury at least you know you can recover from it and still run a marathon.

    I hope you're still enjoying the post-marathon glow of achievement!:D :D

    Morning All!

Hey idio - are you being cheeky again :D, running before brekkie is great - I just get heartburn if I run later in the day...

Poor sorry to hear about your hip :(, its probably the cold - as good an excuse as any to spend the whole winter in Jamaica - speaking of which can I join you?? :D
  • I must say that I thought the same as Idio about pre-brekkie running until the last month.

But having done it a good few times now I can honestly say that I prefer it - there seems to be no drop off in performance and there are no distractions. Plus you burn more fat.

    I'm now a fan!:D :D

And oi Becky, get behind me in that queue for winter in Jamaica.;)
