Anyone else just starting to love being a runner?

I really noticed it last night, when I was scurrying around town trying to get some presents sorted out...In a hurry, I jogged between a couple of shops - at what would have been, more or less, full sprint speed six months ago - wasn't out of breath at all when I got there, didn't feel flustered etc - just makes such a difference :)

Hi everyone, haven't posted for a while, mainly because I haven't been doing that much running. Had a couple of 4-5 milers, including the lovely Christmas Lights run last night with the ladies group I run with(which was brilliant and included two full-size singing & dancing santas in a glass case!).

Some of the ladies have got together with the group's coach (not a patch on you Rich ;) ) to do a marathon & half-marathin training group. I'm really really tempted for several reasons. Firstly I was gutted not to have got a place in FLM, as my OH will be running and I'll be going down anyway. Secondly, I'm really enjoying my running at the moment and as the nights get lighter there is nothing better and I'd like a really significant goal to aim for. I'll think it over during the Christmas break and make a decision in January (which will inevitably be to go for it, I'm 80% decided anyway).

The thing is, what decent marathons are there at around FLM time? I don't want it to be in June, as I'll be busy that month, but I need enough time to get some decent miles in the bank and a good level of fitness before then.

What do you think? Any recommendations for good spring marathons? I could go overseas if it is really tempting....

Coach, do you think this is do-able in this timescale? I'm happily running 10 miles + at the moment and don't want to have too much pressure on 'a good time' as in hours and minutes, I just want to have 'a good time' as in enjoying the race and not being injured. My last FLM was in 2004 and was 4h15m so I know I can do the distance.

    Hmmm... decisions, decisions....

I'm no coach, but I reckon you can do it, chick!

There are plenty of people planning to run FLM that haven't done any 10+ runs yet, so you've got a great headstart - sure you can get a program to fix you up to marathon distance in a few months - it'll be fun! :D

    Evening All (well just!)...

Chick can you not do Blackpool or is that too early??

Glad to hear you're feeling better Rich - good luck with the Race tomorrow :D

Well done on the shop scurrying Idio ;)

So I got out this morning but was still finding it tough going so I settled a very slow pace and managed 7.2 miles in 1 hour 8 not exactly blistering but my pulse was about 90 when I stopped and my bodies been thanking me for taking it easy all day :D most especially since I havent stopped since then and only just got in about 10 mins ago!!!

Going to have a lovely proper lie in tomorrow then go out for another 7-8 and then my 12 mmiler on Sunday...no oher plans at all so going to take it really really easy all weekend and attack the speedwork again on Tuesday next week :D

    Happy running everyone!
  • Just setting off to go and do the Leeds 5K - its nice to see the wind has calmed down, I don't mind ice, rain, snow, cold but wind really is annoying when trying to race!

Chick - Of course you're capable of training for a marathon by April, especially if the aim is to enjoy it and get round comfortably rather than chasing a time. Becky has mentioned Blackpool because that was by far the best option I could find around that time. It is completely flat and, apart from FLM, is just about the easiest marathon around. Unless its windy! There is 15 weeks left tomorrow, which is plenty time. Let me know if you need a plan.

The Paris Marathon is the same day, but unforunately the 37,000 places have all been taken.
And Rotterdam is also the same day but that is likely to be full as well.

Becky - What a rarity for you to have a free weekend! That easy run yesterday sounds just right to get the routine going again and to confirm your ankle is strong after the twisting the other day. I hope today's and tomorrow's runs go well as that would really get you back on track. You're well on schedule anyway for FLM with 18 weeks to go.

Morning all - I haven't done any running for a couple of weeks - have just felt knocked for six! Yesterday as I was walking round the town in my lunch hour I felt drunk, although I haven't (honestly!) touched a drop!

Still, I feel better today, so Pania is coming over this afternoon and we are heading out for an easy jog around the block. If I get on well with that then I will do a longer run tomorrow.

I am desperate to get back into it but have been worried about exhausting myself even more, so felt it better to stay away from temptation!

4 months on Friday until FLM - starting to get excited already :rotfl:

I will report back after my plod later today x
