  • 30DB,

When your on the couchto5k plan,

What sort of time for the 5k is prescribed, as i can run 5k, well jog 5k in just over 30mins, probably less if i timed it right.

I cant seem to pitch myself against the right level, what sort of times are you hoping to complete the 5k to give me a guide.

    (5k on the flat)
    Hi Alias_Omega,

The website with the details on can be found here http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

But basically the plan is to do 5k in 30 minutes, so it sounds like your already meeting/beating that.

For me I'm hoping to do the 5k in any time, then increase the distance until I can do 10k, then work on speed to get it under 1 hour before my race in May.

Its all off till friday now, i think the extended shifts ive been working, and getting up at 4-45am with the broken sleep has put me down so much, that i can not be bothered to get out there and run after last nights attempt.

Told myself friday night for me now, as ill have a lie in on friday morning. Was thinking of trying the 10k distance on friday night, and even trying the 10k circuit that will be on in march on sunday to get an idea what im up against.
  • Up nice and early this morning ready to do a 12 miler.

I was really looking forward to it, but as soon as I started stretching, my legs felt like lead. The little tickle in the throat on Tuesday has also developed into a bit of a throat infection, so the lack of energy in the last 3 days is now making sense - a nasty little throat bug has been picked up from somewhere!

The last thing that is needed is to drive it deeper causing a chest infection so a bit of caution is needed. As soon as energy levels return I'll know its been beaten, but until then rest is the recipe.

I'm not used to being crock so hopefully it won't last more than a day or two!

Happy, energetic running to all those who are fit and healthy! :D

  • JJ, well done on getting out.

Thats the effect I remember from circuits - unable to run for a couple of days!

Recovery is the most important part of training though, so you should feel stronger in a couple of days!:D

    Morning All!

I didnt get out today either...having a rubbish week for it so far, but there's plenty of time to get it back :D

Well done on at least getting out JJ - 3 miles when you're feeling rubbish is a great acheivement :D

Sorry you're not feeling too good Rich - I think everyone's got a bit of pre xmas exhaustion this week. I'm sure you'll be back to your best soon!

    Happy running (or resting) everyone!

Hi just popping in to say I'm off on hols on Sunday so won't be around for a week, I'll still be running though and will let you know when I come back who won the challenge!

I ran 3.2 miles yesterday and plan to do the same on Friday and 5 miles on Saturday, then will just do whatever I can whilst away.

I hope everyone has a good Christmas, well done to everyone for their runs this year and best wishes for 2009.

    Take care Ev x
  • The list now becomes..

    Wk 1

    Sun 7th Dec - Skegness 4.5k fun run in 22m 53s
    Tues 9th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run just under 30mins (non-stop)
    Thur 11th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run 30m 38s (non-stop)

    Wk 2

    Sun 14th Dec - 3.5mile jog / partial run in 35m20s
    Tues 16th Dec - 3.1 (5k) total failure - walked it
    Thur 18th Dec - 3.1mile (5k) in 28mins 47secs

Tonights run was planned as i felt a little fat on the way home, mainly as i had pigged out on food today, so to clean the system out thought i would push myself and had the best time ever so far on the 5k distance.

It was 15m10s to the half way point, so very good on the way back me thinks..

So good that i just ate a chinese take-away..

    Yummy.. :)
  • Morning all,

I'm feeling much better this mornng after a 12 hour sleep ( wow, when was the last time I slept that long?). The throat infection seems to have calmed down and I'm well on the mend.

So I'm planning on having another day off today to get it fully sorted and then, if feeling energetic enough, will race the 5K tomorrow morning followed by a 14 mile time trial on Sunday.

The only slight obstacle is a night in Newcastle followed by a 6-30am ish train back to Leeds in the morning for the 9am race. A little ambitious? Maybe!:p

I hope everyone's illnesses/tirednesses etc are righting themselves and the joys of running are to be experienced again soon.:D
