Is there any sites i can plan my running route, instead of getting a map out and measuring it out. Its in the form of that I run to a place, turn round and run back. a) as i run there, and either walk / run back, b) if i run back i get home faster (ensures motivation stays).

Ive been looking at the BUPA running planner, and i dont know where to put myself. In work i have gym time about 1-2times a week which include circuits, lots of running, press-ups, sit-ups etc. Though never really any outdoor running. I think im top-end beginner, as i can run about 3k at a good pace, then begin to fade (walk 30secs, run 3mins, walk 20secs, run 3mins) etc..

    Guess i'll start the list

    Sun 7th Dec - Skegness 5k fun run in 22m 53s.
Mon 8th Dec - Day of rest
    Tues 9th Dec -

    Hi, welcome!

Have a look at mapmyrun.com - does what it says on the tin, in terms of mapping where you've been...

Also has a nice "training log" for you to note down what you've done each day, keeps totals of distance per month, calories burnt and so on.

Know there are a couple of Nike stuff users on these boards, sure they'll be along in a bit to tell you how to get that sorted out - but as an alternative, there are several garmin users here, too - GPS watches that show you in real time how fast you're going, how far you've gone so far, etc.

After a run, I just plug the garmin into a PC, go to mapmyrun.com and it pulls my route off the watch and overlays it on google maps, so it's saved for future reference. You tend to find that you build a library of common routes, so after a while you can just log in, say I did X route, it took Y minutes and it doesn't take long at all to keep tabs on my exercise...

    Hello Alias!

    Welcome to the club :D

Oh in case you hadnt noticed Idio is a gadget freak - I just use a watch and mapmyrun and have a spreadsheet of all my runs over the week to keep tallies of my progress...

Do you have a particular time in mind you're aiming for? It often helps with improving if you have something to aim for...

Enjoy the running anyway and we look forward to seeing you around :D

Alias, 22-53 for a 5K is a good standard of running, beginner or not!

If thats what you're doing on not much training I can't wait to see what a bit of training brings!:D

    And welcome along!

I dont know if this was the exact time or not, but the wife was ment to be timing me, when i crossed the finish line the clock said 0:22:53, so that is assuming they started the clock on the start of the run.

You'll soon find out if it was accurate, but you can run a lot slower than that and still be considered a 'top end beginner'!

    So good luck!:D

Not done anything resembling speed work for about 3 weeks now. Not beating your time any time soon :)
