Poorbabe, I think your preparation for the marathon has been fantastic - you will be fine, even without the additional 4 miles today. When do you leave for the sun?

Idio - where did you buy all your stuff from yesterday - is there a link. I still can't get over how much you bought for £50!

Hypno, I leave on Saturday morning. Tomorrow I'll start sorting and packing.

Still no snooze but I guess an early night will have to suffice instead. The Guinness went down a treat though ;)

  • Hi guys

Some excellent running there from everyone this week!

Idio - i wear Seal Skin MTB gloves and totally swear by them. 100% waterproof & toasty warm yet breathable.

I did british military fitness at Roundhay Park in Leeds on Saturday morning as normal (i wear the gloves for this too, makes pressups in the mud much more palatable!)

After a short rest on the drive home i then went for my second 'official' run. Think it was a bit of a daft idea to be honest, the training session had already knackered me out, legs felt pretty heavy & i had got shivery on the way home. Anyway, i did 3.8 miles in 36 minutes. I worked that out to be 9.5mins/mile is that right?

Not sure what to plan for the week ahead. Do you guys usually plan? Or just wait and see how you feel?

good work FMOW, especially on "tired legs"!!

As regards planning, well in my experience, Planning and Doing are two entirely different things :o

    FMOW,

I'm glad I went to the right Leeds park yesterday morning!:p

A 5K run in Hyde Park sounds more palatable than military training in Roundhay Park! You must just love being bossed around!;)

That run is solid enough without taking into consideration the prior physical efforts so well done.

In terms of planning, it depends what you want. If you're aiming to achieve something running wise, ie a distance or a time, then planning is essential to make the thing a whole lot easier. However, if you're not aiming for anything in particular then running as the body feels is the most sensible form of 'planning' if that makes sense!

Well, i could pretend that the fit guys in army uniforms play no part in my enjoyment of the class ;)

But seriously, i love it :D Lots of sprint drills / hills interspersed with resistance work, randomly giving people piggy backs up hills lol. The group dynamic is fab too & plenty socials.

Anyway, enough of the BMF promo speil. Back to running.... how does this sound for a plan:

    mon: BMF
    tues: rest
    weds: BMF
    thurs: 4 mile run
    fri: rest
    sat: BMF then run
    sun: run and/or spinning

That looks fine - keeping runs at 4 miles or above will get you a training benefit in terms of additional leg strength. Theres no need for the runs to be hard, you're getting plenty anaerobic work in the BMF sessions, so slower distance is better. Plenty rest in there as well, so looks like a good plan.

Idio - where did you buy all your stuff from yesterday - is there a link. I still can't get over how much you bought for £50!

Just popped down the local outlet centre...got my stupid scarfy thing for £15, tog24 base layer for £15, the trainers for £20 and a nice long sleeved dry nike top for £10..

That adds up to £60, I know...was late last night...(the mystery of my DFW status deepens :D)

Good news and bad news. Bad news is that I tried the new trainers on the treadmill today. Hurt beyond belief...I stopped after .4 of a mile, was just destroying the heal on my right foot - so will try and take those back next week.

Good news is, I then went out to the other local centre and got a couple more bits - picked up a reebok top thingy (much thicker than a base layer, really warm, but still quite light, techy fabric..)...which was a bit of a naughty one at £30 - but then made up for it with two pairs of Helly Hanson base layer trousers (the "warm" ones) for £30...List price is £40/pair, so £30 for 2 I thought was pretty good.

On the subject, it looks fairly gay wearing these under shorts...do you think I should worry about that, or just do it anyway? :) Don't own any trousers fit for running, certainly none for cycling...

Sadly, due to the stupid shoes, I didn't get a lot done in the gym. Rowed 2k and a bunch of weights. Not exactly a huge session, but I suppose it's better than nothing...

wear whatever you need to feel warm and comfortable, Idio - who cares what you look like in the process!

I am going to the running club for the first time tonight - have been inspired by someone I was talking to yesterday. So I will hopefully be opting for the "effort" session this evening. Wish me luck! I will report when I am safely home and collapsed on the sofa!
