But since then there has been nothing - its sunny and clear this morning. So is it just the south thats getting this Siberia chill?

Well I've just woken up in the south (with stiff calves after the ride yesterday) and it's fine out...a bit of standing water and I bet it's cold, but not siberian by any stretch of the imagination...

Still snowing heavily here - and with temperatures below freezing point there is a lot of ice so very very slippery on both roads and pavements.

DS is outside skiing - having a whale of a time - the snow is great for some people!!

Great running Sallyx - I will catch up during the week I hope!

No snow here in North Wales but very cold, not going out day have tea to drink instead!
  • Sorry Idio, I've just noticed you asked me a couple of questions on your late post last night.

Unfortunately the answers aren't worth waiting for because all I can say is no idea on the tread thing and no idea on the suitable top thing.

As far as off road running is concerned, my main experience is cross country races and as you may know the last thing that matters in British cross country running is grip. 6 inch mud is slippy and sucky (I know its not a word but you know what I mean!:p) and there aint a lot that any shoe tread is going to do about it.

On the top thing, keeping warm for running is not really an issue - just a question of how many t-shirts and then get the hands covered, but you're looking at a different requirement for biking with all that bbbbrrrrrrrrr wind chill factor (ooo that could be a new reality TV program for Saturday evenings :p). So I'm about as useful as a perforated condom on these subjects I'm afraid!

    Thats interestingly good, Sally.

If you walked a mile you can say that mile took at least 16 minutes, there was at least 2 miles of slow hills and you still did 1-40!

You can stop being so pessimistic about your FLM preparation if this is anything to go by. Theres still about 20 weeks to, effectively, just increase distance - the speed is there!

And to go from 10 miles to 26 in 20 weeks can be done easily enough even if you miss some of your training.

    Well done.

    Thanks Rich
I have to say I was pleasantly suprised with the time and actually when I stopped at 9 miles and looked at the time I was annoyed that I had stopped but knee was starting to give me jip (fine now just a bit stiff). Actually even more suprising is that the 2 uphill miles I ran at a pace of 9.27 and 9.49 pretty much the same pace as the flat, just the downhill bits I had my jet pack on!

I have all but written off any chance of a run today.

Ah well, I won't stress about it - and will make up for it during the week instead.

A fair bit, yes. Driving was hideous this morning with cars coming off the road and all sorts - I couldn't get up a hill at one point and thought I was going to join the select group on the verge with their hazard lights on :o Thankfully I got home ok but I didn't like it one bit!

Of course we are such wimps when it comes to snow - everything comes to a halt. My Norwegian lodger thinks we are a bunch of big girl's blouses! (although she is hoping school is shut tomorrow so she gets a day off!)

"I'm about as useful as a perforated condom" Rich, you make me crack up sometimes :rotfl::rotfl:

I came back to report on my run. I did go. Wrapped up in a base layer and a fleece top, sheepskin mittens covering thin cotton gloves, a thick hat, running tights and an old pair of Ron Hill trackster bottoms.

I have to say, my body really really doesn't like running in this kind of cold. As on Friday evening, I struggled even though it was daylight (if very overcast). My usual tricks of exaggerated arm-swinging, running in time to the music, lengthening my strides just didn't work today and I reluctantly stopped at 12.45 miles. I even told myself that as I only had 4 and a bit miles to go, I could easily knock that out. Nothing doing. The legs felt like thick tree trunks and I shuffled along for the final mile. Not how I usually end my runs, but there we go :(

As disappointed as I am with my final London LSR, I'm now glad that I did the extra 20 mile run last Sunday and I expect (hope) that next Sunday's run in the sun will be a whole lot better (10 miles).

Could do with a little snooze now, but mum will be here soon so I'd best do a little tidying up before she gets here .

Have a good afternoon  (must remember to buy a Guinness today)

PS: Idio, I think a base layer, gilet and a jacket might be worth considering. I never saw the point of a gilet for a long time, but after today I am considering buying one, when I come back from my marathon/hols.
