Well done on the race, rich...Good to see you continuing to hit your targets and the events sound like a good laugh.

Anyway, my day...(The following is shamelessly lifted from another thread...it's past my bed time ;))

Today I went for my first MTB ride in *many* weeks...Not sure I've ever been so cold in my life. Still have brain freeze from the headwind that was pounding my face on the hill tops. Good news and bad news. The good news is, I got up the hills etc *much* easier than I used to - all the running's paying off, my stamina's so much better. Bad news is I just gave up after a while and went home again...*too cold*. So only did 17 miles, which is probably half of our target. Oh, and...as always, have another 2 punctures to sort out now...and another two mean !!! thorns for my "box of pointed things that gave me punctures".

I was so frozen by the whole experience I immediately went out to look for some more winter gear to help me out next time...got a new Tog24 base layer, a long sleeved nike top (layers are key, methinks ) and one of those scarf/hat/balaclava tube things you see about to try and keep some warmth in next time. Also picked up a pair of karrimor trainers I hope will be more suited to some of my off road / mud running, have interesting tread on the bottom (they're model ck07 if anyone's that interested) that I hope will offer more grip - could be useful for the 10k in december (rivers, sand dunes etc).

A bit of a spending bender, for me, but the whole lot cost about £50, so my credit card will probably live to fight another day...which is good, still need some warmer MTB gloves, some trousers/tights (tried one pair on...most comfortable thing ever...but made me look like a tellytubby ) and some kinda jacket/jumper...

(back to running club exclusive content :D)

If you could take a quick look at the bottom of those shoes, rich, I'd be thankful. (maybehere)Not 100% sure what they're designed for...and they don't have the same tread as most x-country shoes I've seen, but I wonder if they'll do the job anyway...A bit of an impulse buy :D

Also, on the topic of a jacket/jumper - what does everyone else use for keeping warm on proper cold days? I'm not too keen on fleece and I'll need something quite mud-resistant (for the mountain biking), but light, warm - and thin enough not to restrict my movements....asking too much?

You seem to have got a lot for your £50 idio :T

I will not be setting out for my 10 miles as planned this morning - the snow has put paid to that because I went out for a short walk last night and had difficulty not slipping, and I don't want to risk a fall at this stage! If the sun comes out later today, then there is a good chance it will melt the snow and I will try and go out and do the run later on -even if it is not as far as the 10 miles planned - something will be better than nothing, but we shall just have to wait and see.

Good luck to everyone able to run today - wrap up warm!!

    Morning All

Well back from my lovely run in the rain and freezing cold 273_cold_person_shivering.gif and I have to report that after my first mile warm up I then ran up a steep slow 2 miles and then remembered that today's run was supposed to be a time trial..whoops. Picked up pace and kept going until about mile 6 when I suddenly had HEAVY legs which now I think was down to the cold. Continued until mile 9 and then did a quick walk for the last mile.

10 miles in 1:40.02 so pleased with that as the last mile was walking. Also have just compared it to the last easy run I did a month ago which was 1:52 so shaved a whole 12 mins off and I haven't been running for 2.5 weeks of that :T

  • Morning everyone.

Sally, you did good. I'm might end up following Hypno's lead if this weather doesn't improve.
I woke up early to prep for my LSR only to see snow on the ground!:eek: Once I'd gotten over the shock it's now raining so I'm really not certain I'm going out there to do my 17 miles. It was cold enough on Friday and that was only 9 miles, so I'm certain this would be a more painful slog :(

It's a bit of a pain really as I'd planned my day based on doing the run this morning and getting home in time for my mother's visit then going to see one of her grands. If I don't run now, I'm not sure I'll get out there later today as I really don't want to end up running 17 miles late afternoon and into nightfall.

Oh bother! I guess I'll do some tidying up and see what happens later today.

Happy warm running for those of you who do go out today :T

PS: It's stopped raining so I'm going for my run after all. Will get mum to come round 30 mins later than currently planned. Wish me luck that I complete the 17 miles today!

    Thats interestingly good, Sally.

If you walked a mile you can say that mile took at least 16 minutes, there was at least 2 miles of slow hills and you still did 1-40!

You can stop being so pessimistic about your FLM preparation if this is anything to go by. Theres still about 20 weeks to, effectively, just increase distance - the speed is there!

And to go from 10 miles to 26 in 20 weeks can be done easily enough even if you miss some of your training.

    Well done.

  • How bad is the weather everywhere?

For yesterday's race we started in a brief snow flurry, but finished in bright sunshine - quite some weather change for a race lasting only 20-odd minutes!

But since then there has been nothing - its sunny and clear this morning. So is it just the south thats getting this Siberia chill?

Edit: I'll answer that myself, because it appears other parts of Yorkshire are covered in frozen snow - we must have had a let off here!
