  • Night all.

I'm sat here half listening to Eddie Izzard and trying to tell myself that this post could wait til the morning  However............., having not run yesterday I dragged my tired body out the door earlier this evening and did my 9 miles in 85 minutes and some seconds. It was a slog even though I didn't think I was that tired. Maybe it was the fact that it was pitch dark, even with the street lights.

After that I treated myself to scampi and chips. Wanted to have a Guinness but didn't have enough money on me so I'll have to get a can for my post-LSR.

There were quite a few other [STRIKE]nutters[/STRIKE] runners when I started, but by the time I got to 7.5 miles there was one other person. Definitely not a lover of night running, but at least I got it out of the way.

    another good run poorbabe!

Most of my running is dark evening running, so I have sort of got used to it. As Pania says, if it is dark, you can't see the hills!!

    Morning All!

Well done Poor - sometimes you just have to drag yourself round - I find I always know in the first mile if its going to be one of those runs!

So I didnt quite get up at 7 - got up at 8 and went and did 6 miles (21 and a half loop) of my garden in about 55 mins which is on pace with Tuesdays run (which was longer and hiller), but I didnt feel like I was pushing at all - in fact I made a conscious effort to hold back for tomorrow :D

Anyway my pulse was around 100 and at 9.1 minute miles that would be about right...I cant wait till pay day next week when I'm gong to buy a proper watch with HRM and be able to monitor it properly...

Right enough babbling - hope it went well Rich on your race today!

    Happy running everyone :D
  • I have to say these are great, informal events. They're exactly as they sound on the website, parkrun.com, just turn up and run. Its FREE. You just register once, which takes 2 minutes on the website, and then you just turn up to any of the events around the country at 9am every Saturday morning and run!

You dont even need to tell anyone you're there - you just turn up, run and then at the end get a disc with your finishing position on. It is only then that you give your name and get your result recorded on the website. Simple, informal and very friendly. I would highly recommend.

As for my own run, I was looking for a time of 23:20, as stated in a post earlier in the week, and my own timing stopped at, yes, 23:20!! Whats the chances of that? The official time may be a second or two different, but it was still a wee bit spooky to see that time. Finishing position 45th. Results will be here shortly (Event 60):

Since this is the first time during this build up that I have run hard for more than 1 mile, I have to be pleased with the result. The legs felt strong and were were under no strain at all, it was just the ability to deliver oxygen quick enough which was a bit limited, which is fine. I was expecting the course to be pretty flat, but the best description would be 'testing' as there actually isnt any flat sections in the whole race!

  • Well done Poor, a 9 mile effort is always a good chunk of miles in the bank so you will get rewarded for getting out there and doing it.

The fact that you can run 9 miles when you're not really feeling up to it must mean you're in pretty decent shape - with the tapering/rest before the actual race you'll feel just fine!

  • Nice run Becky!

That backs up the evidence from the rest of the week that you really have come on and can handle 9 minute miling as a 'steady' pace now on a low pulse.

That is quite some progress, which you have earned through putting the regular efforts in. I bet you're starting to feel the fitness as well!

Well done on all the runs, glad you had a good race today Rich sounds like a lovely event.

Well I haven't been out for a few days, family life and bad weather got in the way. But this morning my hubbie and I dropped the kids off at my parents house (I did ask them first!) and we went to Llandudno to check out the course for our race in Feb.

What can I say :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: the first 2 1/2 miles is uphill and today it was blowing a gale! I had to take lots of walks to get up the top. But the rest of the route is pretty much downhill and across the top of town to finish. It took us 1hr 10mins with me walking parts of the beginning and also stopping to take snaps!

So a 10km done ish for the first time in 2 years, I'm going to rest tomorrow probably and then go out Monday but then I won't be able to get out for a few days as hubbie is going away on a course.

Feeling tired but not achy but very pleased with run. Lots and lots of hill training needed.

Well done Evab, I bet that run refreshed the parts other runs cant reach!:p

And you won't be worried about either the distance or the course now so a good bit of reccy work done there.

Its nice to get back to running 10K again, its the kind of distance that makes you feel like you're getting somewhere, isnt it?
