Run 3 of week 2,
Hi all finished the second week of my training today
Had a nice run but my leg were burning from the long walk I took yesterday.
Start time = 21.11.08 11:57
Duration = 28min 38s
Distance = 3.84 km
Speed (average) = 8.06 km/h
Next week should get harder so I'm looking forward to that.
I have plenty of time before my race in May but I've been asked to do a sponsored walk in December, its 25 miles !!! I doubt I can do 25 miles as I am totally not that fit.
Also I'm concerned about the negative impact it will have on my training if I hurt my legs or something and cant train for a week or two.
What would you more experienced fitties suggest?Debts:

Hi 30!
No advice on the walk thing...I'll leave that to a knowledgable bod...
But congrats on another great run, are you upping the distance next week or the pace?

Thanks Becky_rtw,
I'm following the couch to 5k plan from coolruning.com, so this week I was doing 90 seconds of running then 2 minutes brisk walking, next week I think its 2 minutes of running and 90 seconds of brisk walking, so the ratio increases every week.
It should see an improvemnt in both pace and distance, after 9 weeks im hoping to run 5k comfortably, then plan to increase each week by 1k until I hit the magic 10k.
Then use the following weeks till the race to improve on speeds.Debts:

:j :T Well done to all who have run today. Did my lunch break run, felt good although the wind was pretty strong down by the river, managed time of 43 minutes. Rest for the weekend (children/home life activities), back out Monday lunch time.

Gah! Curse you idio! You've just gone past my PB! Good effort! Oh dear, I knew this day would come. I never thought I'd get competitive with idio, but will I be out on the roads every morning now?! And is it wise for me to get competitive with a fresh faced youngster like him, anyway?
The answer is no, BTW. I only get competitive with myself when it comes to running!
Have to say, I really don't feel competitive with Rich (it's easy to say whilst I'm winning) - but it is nice to have someone more experienced at a similar level to benchmark myself against - shows how quickly I actually can progress...Today I took around 25seconds avg off my pace - left to my own devices I'd probably just take it down 5 seconds at a time...Is annoying though...these big step days are the days I find it easier to believe rich is telling the truth. When I have bad days it's quite easy to convince myself he's just making it up to make me cry

I only started in May and joined this thread in June, so I'm not sure about "more experienced" unless that's a dig at how much older I am?:p I agree that it's good to have a benchmark though. Your putting in a lot more work than me at the moment and are (deservedly) benefitting from it. It's amazing to think that I couldn't run 2km at the start of the year and when I did I was wrecked. you started around the same time, didn't you? Improvement comes quickly if you have the time and motivation to do the necessary work!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Hehe Idio got some motivation from somewhere!! Was it Becky? Was It Chickadee? Was it a fat, old man?
Who knows, but 47:13 puts you up the top of the tree. Mightily impressive - improving by 20-25 secs/mile in one jump is always a great achievement.
I know you're buzzing away after that - your race pace is quicker than that, so when you've enjoyed the thrill of this you're going to start thinking about just what is possible!
Was it even pace, or steady first half then bury yourself in the second half?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yeah, I started in June too.
I was thinking at lunch...when did I become "that guy" that runs 10k's in his lunch hour. I'm not kidding, I'd *never* have thought I was capable of that 6 months ago.
...and I was, of course, referring to roddy as the more experienced runner0
