Thanks Poor - have you started packing yet??
Becky, not yet. I tend to leave it to the night before which invariably means I stay up all night so can sleep on the plane. A ten hour flight is very boring  I'm just getting bits together and putting them in one place, so I know where they are.
Hey Sally, good on you for tonight. Hope you'll make it regular, 'stuff' permitting :T
Hope Hypno enjoyed hers too.The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Yes, I enjoyed mine too!
They seem a very friendly bunch! I was hoping to do an "effort" session to try and start going quicker, but because most of the club are running a half marathon on Sunday, they wanted to do a longer run instead, so I did that. My garmin says 5.44 miles - their records say 5.82 miles so not entirely sure, but as the time was 57 mins and 00 seconds, even on the short distance, that is 10:29 a mile, which is a bit better than my standard 11 min miles! And if it IS 5.82 miles, then I am very slightly under 10 min miles
Either way, it is slightly quicker than normal so shows the benefit I will gain from running with a group.
I will definitely go back next week! They have a ladies only running group on a Thursday too, but the impression I got is that it is full of faster ladies, so we shall see about that one later in the week.....
Sallyx, I am glad you enjoyed your first session too :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Go Hypno! See you can run under 11minute miles
- interval sessions paying off
Well done Sally too!
Poor - get your bum in gear and pack some stuff0 -
Hypno, way to go:j:j
I was nervous before I started - which is a bit daft because I have been in a running club before, but once I started I quite enjoyed it! I am going to aim to make the most of the opportunity
and yes, I CAN run under 11 min miles :T :T :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Well done Sally and Hypno - it sounds like both sessions were positive experiences, and it always helps to be able to compare stories with others.
I wonder how Chickadee's intervals have gone? Low 8 minutes? Or maybe, dare I say, sneaking into the 7's? We shall soon see......
Good luck in the morning Becky, I know you'll enjoy it though - the first interval session will usually leave you feeling invigorated.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Morning All,
Had my first interval session this morning and suffice to say I was rubbish - 1 mile warm up (9 mins), 1 x 7.30, 1 x 7.30 and urrr thats it! I couldnt do the last mile because my lungs were dying...
I've always hated speedwork so I'm not that disappointed and its onwards and upwards for next week to try to do that other mile - does everyone else find it this hard or is it just me who nearly collapses by the end of the second one??
Oh yeah pulse 140 eeeek!0 -
It is cold, dark, you are running in the middle of the night - I am still in awe, regardless of whether you completed the extra mile or not!
I have no idea about intervals really, so can't tell you what you could do to change it, but I am sure next week will be better for you!

Absolutely brilliant!
Okay, you did two instead of three but thats just a reflection of you not having done them before and therefore not knowing what to expect, thats all.
My first interval session 4 weeks ago averaged 7:31 and I was delighted so if you think 7:30 is rubbish you've got mighty high expectations. I was looking for something around 8:00 average for you today or a shade under. Clearly by backing off just a bit you would have managed three reps well under 8 minutes.
As for the lungs - nothing wrong there with the level that you pushed at. Again it is the first time probably in years that your lungs have been expanded to that extent. Like any muscle which is being stretched beyond what it is used to it will resist. What you may find difficult to believe right now is that as sure as eggs is eggs in a few weeks time you will be able to run at the same speed and your lungs will hardly notice as you saunter along!
Pulse - That looks just about right as well. In fact it looks on the lowish side consider how hard you pushed, even with your low resting pulse, so again another positive sign.
So in a nutshell, its all positive. You maybe pushed a little too hard in the first rep, which built oxygen debt up which you couldnt reclaim throughout the session, but theres only a 10 second per mile difference between that and being relatively comfortable. Next week just ease off slightly at the beginning, but only slightly, and you will find you can do all three and actually be pushing at the end.
And, as another indiation of the level this was done at, 7:30 average 1 mile reps indicates 10K race pace of 48 minutes and marathon race pace of 3-40 - and you havent really done any speedwork yet!
I'm impressed, well done!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Oh thanks guys *blushes*...
I got in and did my sit ups and press ups too because I felt bad about not doing the 3rd one...
On the other side - some impressive bruises are starting to form from my slip into the shower - right on the side of the knee - ouchie!
Also, I need an mse way of getting some more clothes to fit (I now have one skirt, a pair of jeans and one party dress that arent too big - not really enough) so I've suggested a clothes swap party amongst my friends - one problem no one is smaller than me - any ideas
Thanks again guys for being so supportive0
