    Welcome JJ!

Wow I wish I had been that fast when I started, in fact thats how fast I run now...

Are you enjoying it yet? I found it took a while to get into the 'thing' of running, but once I did it was amazing :D

I am enjoying it but i think it helps with my job. im in the military and just used to do circuit training but i want to get my running sorted.
I always find that im fully out of breath when im only about half way through a run and my pulse always goes over 170bpm when im close to the end.

im trying to improve my fitness and lose weight at the same time.
im just under 14 stone at the moment and want to get it down.
I will be running 5 times a week, iv been given time from work to go in the morning for 30 mins or so.

30mins 5 times a week is an excellent chuck of time, you will really see some good results :D
  • Hullo all and sundry!

I used to post on this thread (probably a year or so ago now  ) but am wanting to get back into running. Back then i did a couple of 10Ks in approx 65mins.

I think i am fitter now than i was then, i have been doing military fitness training classes 2-3 times a week for the last few months.

Anyway - i just wanted to say 'hi' and rejoin the thread. All encouragement welcome lol.

I am going to go for my first run tonight (assuming i can get my !!!! out of the door!). Any ideas what i should aim for? Or maybe i should just do as much as I can and see where the 'base line' lays.

    Happy running everyone :p

    Good luck for tonight

Well to give you an idea on weight, I was 14-12 12 weeks ago and am now 12 stone...so 40lbs has gone in 12 weeks.

So you dont have to be too concerned about that. It is best to set yourself a running based target and let weight do what it wants. So maybe a target to run 3 miles in 25 minutes in 3 months time or something like that will give you a focus to aim for.

Aiming to lose weight is a pointless exercise as we have discussed on here many times, simply because once you achieve your target you're lost and go back to square one.

Your target could equally be to average a certain number of miles over a 13 week period perhaps.

Just choose something that you want to do and you'll feel yourself improving slowly but surely.

    Hey FMOW,
Welcome back (or welcome to me since I'm newish!) :j:j:j

No ideas about baselines etc - thats one for Rich! I just wanted to say hi and I look forward to seeing your time from tonight's run :D
  • I think i will aim to do 2 miles a morning for this week and then try to up it by 1/2 a mile a morning for the next week so hope fully by the end of the month ill be running for 3 miles a morning. which will give me 15 miles a week!!
    Heres hoping !!

    Hi FMOW,

You'll soon get enthused as you get back into a routine.

I would say dont try to achieve anything too much tonight, certainly dont do as much as you can though - you need to keep well away from any limits and just try to be as comfortable as possible for a shortish run (whatever shortish might mean to you).

In that way, you'll be far more likely to be left wanting more and be keen to get out again later in the week.

I took 8 weeks doing nothing more than walking and very easy running because it all strengthens the core stability of the body and readies you for any more ambitious plans later, should you wish to get more ambitious that is!

Certainly running harder in the early stages of a new fitness regime achieves nothing much, except creating raging hunger.

    I am quite ambitious :o

I am one of those people who thinks if i wake up one morning feeling the urge to run a marathon then i should just be able to go out there and damn well do it!! Unfortunatly the reality of my fitness is never up to the ideal in my head :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hello all, had my weekly session of paying money to get knocked about till I'm black and blue last night. Yes, I mean football of course. Back out running tomorrow morning for my 4 miler and I'll aim for a longish one on Saturday. Going for 10k, don't want to push it too much, gentle build up is the key.

Some good progress, keep it up guys. Stay away from my record 10k time, Rich!

Welcome new posters. Remember to take it easy and enjoy it! If you have fun, you're likely to stick at it!
