    ????

Look I don't want to cause bad feeling ANYWHERE on DFW - I might get into rucks on other boards but NOT here - and this is not my thread so I have no business here but surely I have the right of reply?

    Why have you quoted me?

I DO find it cliquey. I posted on here a few times and the only people who acknowledged me are those who 'know' me from the chat thread. So it felt like my presence was just taking up space from all the proper runners. The impression I got was that if you're not aiming for a 10k in the near future that this is NOT the thread for you. RichOneDay is the guru on the running thread and not interested in re-starters like me

Like I said this is not my thread and I will leave it now. Sorry for posting.

DD I went to dig out your first post from earlier in the thread...here's Rich's response to you:

    Morning Daphne,

You're in the right place that's for sure.

I was just the same, no training for 2 years until about 4 weeks ago. Read as much of the thread as you can, in small chunks, and after reading everyone's progress you'll soon get an overwhelming feeling of missing out on something good.

Regular walking is the way to get back into it, because your body gets used to regular exercising again but you don't have to go through all the psychological hurdles stopping you going for a run - its just step out of the door and you're away. Walking will soon progress to running.

I'm sorry if we appear to be a clique to you...we do try to be welcoming to newbies because we were all newbies once (me only very recently :D)...but obviously we want to reply to our friends on here as well, because its great to know how they are getting on too!

Have you managed to get back into running yet?

I'm a re-starter after over 15 years......and you guys have really helped me do far more over the last five weeks than I would have EVER done had it just been left to me and my laziness :o

So thank you guys for your help so far, and can we please put this one to bed now before everyone falls out?

RichOneDay is the guru on the running thread and not interested in re-starters like me

    Why do you think that?

As a (first time) starter myself, Rich has always taken a keen interest in my efforts and answered any questions I've had.

Anyway, I, for one, was quite interested to read your post (quoted by rich) - shows us how we're perceived from the outside. I'd be quite upset if I wasn't so excited...I'm in a clique!

    :rotfl: :rotfl: Bless!

Any group of internet friends inevitably gets described as a clique at some point I think. I have seen it sooo many times before on here. People naturally chat more to the people they know, support them, leap to their defence if they are upset etc. And people who are new probably feel a bit nervous of joining in, just as you would be approaching a group of chatting friends in real life. It's just human nature.

This thread has been described as a clique, the daily chat thread has too....but actually both threads are generally very welcoming.

Well people I'm going to add to this post! I have taken up running outdoors (used to do treadmill at gym amongst other gym work) only really after reading this thread (6 months now) and I must say again! although I didn't post often I always read this thread and got encouragement from all the runners be it beginner, inter/upper/higher level runners, so PLEASE LETS NOT FULL OUT, you are all wonderful people and I certainly wouldn't be this advance without the comments/encouragements given on this board.

Please lets agree to disagree and go back to encourage, motivate and give support.
    You are all :A .

When I recently moved my ample frame to do a ickle run, I was too embarrassed to post here. I whispered it over on the chat thread but didnt dare post it here, because I was ashamed how little I could do on my first go.

That embarrassment, if we're being honest, is my problem, no-one elses. I'm sure if I had reported in, you would've all been supportive, as you are to everyone else.

It was lurking here, listening to you lot that made me want to have a go. Pleaase keep the thread going.

Thats great to hear Spud! :T We all go through the early stages of being embarassed about running, whether it be in real life or on a forum like this. I heard one story about a woman trying to lose a *lot* of weight who went running and pretended to be running for a bus until she could run much further. She was embarrassed that people would look at her and think she shouldn't be running because she was to big to do it. (Edit: NOT on this forum by the way!)

Even now, when I am used to running on the roads, I still get shouts from groups of kids. When I run with my ladies group, the number of drivers who wind down their windows to shout *encouragement* beggars belief!

Please keep it up, we want to hear how you get on and I'm sure you'll be bitten by the running bug very soon (if it hasn't already got you). ;)
