No, its just a natural process, but the famous 'muscle memory' plays a big part. Also, knowing which niggles you can run through and which you really shouldn't enables you to get more mileage in - but that can only be learnt from experience.

Although the progress so far is satisfying, its not overly quick and I would expect times to start coming down more quickly over the next few weeks as speedwork kicks in - the 10K time should be sub 40 mins in another 8 weeks for instance.

So its really just a case of using data from previous build ups to guide progress - a bit vague I know, but thats about the sum of it!

I disagree about the runners being off putting for beginners though - when I first posted here I was very much a beginner having only started a month or two previously and having all these experienced runners around was so inspiring and filled me with confidence about both the advice they gave and the progress I could make.
I didn't say that :o I said it was unintentionally daunting. I completely agree with everything you said here (apart from the misquote :p). As a beginner I do find it inspiring to see how fast others are progressing, but the talk of 10 mile 'easy' runs does make my head spin a bit! :rotfl:

  • Did my 2.5 today,
but I think It may be time to just be a lurker again, your all doing so well and peeps like me who only have the odd two hrs off if their lucky, so can't make def comittements to run/post all the time, can be left on the wayside a bit. Most of my posts seem to go un noticed now that I can't be on here so much, so I will bow out gracefully and continue anyway.
    Good luck all

We really need to probe this...he's talking "natural process", "training effect" and so on...I'm thinking it's more like "jacked up on crazy beans" or "misc voodoo/black magic"....the only logical explanations.

Anyway...No running this weekend, did do my first session in a gym for many months yesterday, though...Treadmill running *destroyed* me, don't know why...Did 20 mins at 8min/miles, so pretty much my 10k pace...program doing pyramids between 0% and 3% elevation...must've sweated half my body weight off by the end of it - it was streaming off me. Don't know if that's just cos it's warmer indoors or what, but was really tough. Did a decent bunch of weights after that, though, got nice warmth in my arms and chest today :)

There is no womens running network group near me - I did have a look, but the nearest is about 100 miles away!

I had sorted out going to a running club starting from tonight, but I got an email from them saying it is their AGM tonight so they are not doing a proper session - I don't really want to get caught up in an AGM for a club I've not yet experienced (knowing me, I would end up as secretary or something!) so will start with the club next week instead......

I ache today after yesterday's long run, so will probably just go out for a walk later on. I think I might have to incorporate some yoga into my days to try and keep things supple - at the moment my hips feel as though they belong to a 90 year old :o
