Thats alright complain away - it doesnt include me anyway
, I've yet to run a race and am petrified by the thought of my first in Jan :eek::eek:
i forget that you are a relative newbie to running cause you seem to have just taken to it easily and have really commited to the lifestyle change.... a good example of someone who is already fit so naturally going to be able to manage a decent level and has the lifestyle/time to devote to the run....
You'll be great at your race cause you have prepared well and seem to have natural aptitude for it.... (this is the point where Rich chips in and says no such thing as natural aptitude etc etc... just to shoot holes in what i say!)I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
I'm not usually argumentative (What? I'm not!
) but I really have to respond to this, sorry, as it makes HUGE assumptions.
From the second I wake up to the second I go to bed, I am the sole carer for my baby daughter and autistic son. The only exception to this is when they are at school/nursery, during which times I am at work trying to support them. Even when their father was here, he had minimal involvement in their care.
I don't get breaks. I don't have time to myself. I accept that is the way my life is because I LOVE my children above all else.
In order to go running once a week, I have to pay a babysitter, something I can ill afford. And even then, I worry constantly that my son might have a meltdown while I'm not there to care for him.
There are no 'time wasters' I can cut out of my life to make it possible to run more often. I would LOVE to run 3 times a week, or be able to be away from home for hours on end, but it's just not possible. And that IS standing in the way of me getting to the level I want to be at.

I think you are pretty amazing too to still be considering running given all the turmoil of the last few months.
I struggle to find time and that's with Big G taking his turn, and really do have to be kinda selfish to get "my time"... afterall he takes "his time" whenever he needs to..... plus you have to be ready to grab the opportunities when they arise (like i did for swim this morning)... which is easier said than done i know and on your own opportunities must be few n far between....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
The reason I don't post (this being my 2nd or 3rd) is because I find almost all talk about compo and I also have no intention of putting in for any races, but my hat goes off to those that do them:j
As I've said before, it's still worth posting when you can....being purely selfish, seeing that you're out there, doing your thing, three times a week is a great motivator for the rest of us...I also find that just jotting down what I've been up to gives me a bit of a sense of achievement I guess...Although I suppose just doing it should give me that feeling
On the subject, just got back from my lunchtime run - 5 miles in 40 minutes something today. Was gonna take it real gentle, then something went wrong and I ran the middle couple of miles around 7:20min/miles...oops. Never steamed so much as when I got back, either - could barely see0 -
Another of your amazing lunchtime runs Idio! Wow how do you do it??0

well done to mummum2 and 30DB!
today it is ffffffreezing outside and quite an icy wind and rain...
i am dreading runclub tonight as i am going to freeze my bits off...!
i do however have some natty new gear which i think i told you about when i ordered them but forgot to say had arrived!
another pair of tchibo trousers,
a gilet type thingy which i wore with a long sleeved t shirt yesterday afternoon and was very comfortable with, it kept the wind off without overheating me IYKWIM....
and also a sort of hooded top sweater type thing which is definitely the order of the day tonight (along with said gilet i think!)
on a MSE note - i haven't ordered new trainers yet... going to ask Santa for some instead..!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
