Having had a day of housework, my muscles aren't so achey now.......I should really head out while the children are at karate for an easy run, although why they call it a "recovery run" I really don't know - I need to recover before I start it!

I am very jealous of those of you who run in your lunch hour - we used to have a gym near by who let you (this is going back to the early 90s, bear in mind) use their lockers and showers for 20p, meaning you could go for a run and still get back to the office for the afternoon smelling fresh and lovely.

Sadly that gym closed down, and given the state that I find myself in even after an "easy" run, I don't think I could subject my colleagues and clients to the experience :o

Yeah, I'm quite lucky to have showers at work (and quite flexible working hours)...Would be a lot harder for me to get out in this light if I couldn't go at lunch...

Really think the government ought to be offering some kinda tax breaks or something to companies that provide showers and lockers to their staff...But then that would *actually* encourage people to cycle to work, or be more active...

Of course this is OTT...everyone knows the only reason people don't cycle is because the speed limits are too high...

I was gonna write more, but am starting to tremble with rage...deep breaths..

Yeah, I got one too...Of course the total lack of any kind of decent cycle tracks (or, more importantly, secure cycle storage) means there isn't the faintest chance of me using it for anything other than recreation...
  • i forget that you are a relative newbie to running cause you seem to have just taken to it easily and have really commited to the lifestyle change.... a good example of someone who is already fit so naturally going to be able to manage a decent level and has the lifestyle/time to devote to the run....

You'll be great at your race cause you have prepared well and seem to have natural aptitude for it.... (this is the point where Rich chips in and says no such thing as natural aptitude etc etc... just to shoot holes in what i say!)

Why? When have I said anything remotely like that? I did say that a far bigger factor on performance than natural ability is excess weight.....which is completely true.

As for 'shooting holes in what you say', I can't recall doing that at any point until your comment about anyone making progress must be 'selfish' or 'having loads of time available'.

Look at Chickadee who has very limited time available, but had a specific goal and wanted to know how to go about it. On Monday nights she literally has 1 hour available, and no more, while doing motherly duties. But that hour is used to do a real good interval session which she enjoys immensely. There is nothing relating to being 'selfish' or 'having loads of time' available involved.

And Becky has set her (ambitious) targets from a starting point of no experience and no special 'natural ability'. Her schedule is as busy as anyones, so much so that runs are done at 6am through choice to fit them in without affecting anything else. Again, there is nothing relating to being 'selfish' or 'having loads of time available' involved.

I'm sorry you felt this equated to 'shooting holes in what you say', but I don't feel that such admirable efforts should be met with anything but praise.

I, conversely, am just selfish and have loads of time available :D
