Thanks for saying this Idio - I think that some time next year I will probably get to the point where I don't really WANT to go further - I'm aiming for 10k, but that's enough for me.
I don't think I will ever do a marathon, or even a half. I just want to run and enjoy it, and at the moment, I definitely do. I love that feeling of being in the zone, when your head feels clear and your legs are just doing their own thing without too much effort on your part. There have been moments when I've thought 'This is soooooo cool, I could run forever' (sadly they are usually swiftly followed by 'oooh I'm knackered now, think I need to stop', but there you go! :rotfl:). That's what it's all about for me."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Yeah Idio, thanks for saying this... so true...
It is important to remember that not everyone is good/wants to run with targets, measurements etc... but i suppose running does kinda lend itself to stats as it is so, well, very measureable....!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

So totally also true for me, run 3 times a week at lunchtime at work (45mins total) because I enjoy it and also to keep my weight at what it is (hit my 40's) don't want to have middle-age spread.
The reason I don't post (this being my 2nd or 3rd) is because I find almost all talk about compo and I also have no intention of putting in for any races, but my hat goes off to those that do them:jLong Hauler No: 51

i would love to run at lunchtime, but i just cannot fit it in, i only have half an hour.... i take my hat off to *you* mummum2......!!
to be honest there are no really competitive runners on here, as far as i know anyway. Some are planning on doing races and covering good miles but really it's all about support and personal stories on here mostly.....
There are a lot of mums on the run, so please do join in the chat some more...
45 minutes, is probably 3.5-4 miles at a time at least? pretty impressive 3 times a week!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
ooh what interesting discussions, I for one mainly run for the sense of freedom I get, the weight loss and fitness and a shared hobby with my dh. We enter races purely as a goal and often it's raising money for charity
I think the thing to remember that every running club has people with totally different goals, aims, abilities and reasons for running. But overall you just have to enjoy it for yourself. xx0 -

It is nothing about being 'selfish' or 'devoting loads of time'. Everyone has the capability and the time resources to progress to whatever level they set their mind to.) but I really have to respond to this, sorry, as it makes HUGE assumptions.
From the second I wake up to the second I go to bed, I am the sole carer for my baby daughter and autistic son. The only exception to this is when they are at school/nursery, during which times I am at work trying to support them. Even when their father was here, he had minimal involvement in their care.
I don't get breaks. I don't have time to myself. I accept that is the way my life is because I LOVE my children above all else.
In order to go running once a week, I have to pay a babysitter, something I can ill afford. And even then, I worry constantly that my son might have a meltdown while I'm not there to care for him.
There are no 'time wasters' I can cut out of my life to make it possible to run more often. I would LOVE to run 3 times a week, or be able to be away from home for hours on end, but it's just not possible. And that IS standing in the way of me getting to the level I want to be at.

I for one don't know how you get out at all Snags, I'm very lucky to have a dh who is my absolute equal and we share the small time there is to go out for a run and that's a quick run during the week.0
