    Sun16/11 10 Miles 1:28:49 (Pulse 108)

    Summary of Week 11:
    1. Fastest 10K @ 52:30
    2. Fastest 8 Miles @ 1:10:42
    3. Fastest 10 Miles @ 1:28:49

Not the smoothest flowing of weeks with the high winds and lurking virus, but nonetheless, as is usually the case, within a few days everything is back on track and the week has still seen some good progress overall.

Today's run was quite a big step forward. 10 miles in 1:28:49 (Pulse 108) is just about what I was looking for, but with it being on a very tough course and comparing to 1:40:29 (Pulse 98) last time it is a really solid run.

As a bonus, besides being the fastest 10 miles so far, along the way the fastest 8 miles was achieved in 1:10:42 compared to a previous best of 1:14:03

Hi everyone. Hope you are all rested after your efforts during the week and this weekend. It's very encouraging to see the progress being made, even when we don't feel that we have :T

Gattina, not to worry about your posts. I also cycle to/from work a couple of days a week. Only started in September and was very very nervous but have improved a little since the early days. I'll consider myself a novice cyclist til 12 months have passed and I can tackle a few of those gaps in stationery traffic like the other cyclists. At the moment I tend to pretend I'm a car in certain situations as I feel that's the safest option :D

I did my long run today. 20 miles in 3hrs 16:30, which means I shaved off just over 13 minutes from the target and and extra 3 mins from my last 20 miler a few weeks ago    I'm sure my Garmin was wrong as I didn't feel I was running THAT fast in places. Actually I don't care, I'm too happy with my time :T :j  I use the training assistant on my Garmin to keep me in line when I start off, not always successfully, but this time I was determined to start slow, stay slow for the first 10 miles then try to up the pace for the final 10. Was successful til about mile 17 when I felt myself fading a little but a few jelly babies and water did the trick (and maybe a mental kicking helped too!).

As per usual I needed a toilet break very early on and I'm going to put that down to the fact that I didn't leave at least 2 hours between eating and running. Will have to get that right next week as I don't want any problems on the actual marathon day.

I'd like to celebrate with a glass of wine but I'll have to make do with half a can of Guinness til Wednesday when I meet a friend for dinner :j

Happy Sunday evening everyone. I'll catchup with you in the week.

PS: I've just checked my average pace for this run and it was 9.49 per mile. I think I need to lie down from the shock!!

  • Poorbabe,

    That is excellent.

When you take into account race conditions and the added motivation that brings, 1-14 for that last 6.2 miles looks well within your grasp.

    4-30 here you come!!!

Treat yourself, you deserve it - you must feel great!

Btw Have you got the clumsiness syndrome that comes after 20 mile runs?

Thanks Hypno. I would never have thought I'd see the day when I could run 20 miles. Training for this marathon has been a very interesting journey and I'm enjoying it immensely overall, despite the occasional tiredness, blisters and lack of motivation etc :D

    Woo hooo!!!!:j :j

Thanks Rich. No clumsiness syndrome here, maybe it's waiting for the 26 mile instead :D Had to have a lie down though I was that tired and Lord only knows how my legs will feel tomorrow but the extra food intake will compensate :rotfl: I'm sure.

    Bunny you're doing fab!

This thread can be unintentionally daunting for new runners because there are quite a lot of very serious runners here. But there's a few of us 'ohh my god a mile is a long way' plodders too. :D

    It's all good!

    Well said Snaggles!!

Even when you and Bunny are running off into the distance when you're up to 10 miles easy runs, i will still be there, dragging my carcass round a few miles tops! So i am willing to stay grounded and keep it low milage for the benefit of any newbies!! (ahem! and myself!)
