Theres a Sunday series of 10Ks just in London as well someone was telling me about the other day along the lines of 'oh you should come along' I had to sigh and say 'not enough distance for my training' and then cry slightly into my glass of coke...
I could do with the race practice as well - ah well its all good!0 -

Surely a speed session on a sunday every couple of weeks wouldn't hurt too much? (although, if you're like me, I guess it's mainly the weekends when you have a chance to do the longer runs...)0 -
Yeah Idio I do those on Saturdays...hence the getting up at 5am this weekend! The thing is though - I love it
so not going to moan

Ah, I knew I had something to tell you Becky!
When I was doing my intervals the other day there were two cars parked together, their number plates were:
RUN 1 and B3 CKY
That first one must be pretty valuable - but the pair together made me think of you!!!!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Steve Ovett tried to buy SJO 1 for himself as a present after winning the 800m Olympic title.
He rang up anonymously so that the £10,000 asking price didn't suddenly shoot up.
Unfortunately he got the response that the plate had been sold but he might be interested in a cheaper one for £400.......... SJO 800!!
He managed to stay calm enough to do the deal and then the salesman asked his name and there was a long pregnant pause!!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thats roughly how I remembered the story, but this is it in his own words:
On one of my birthdays my father gave me a number plate SJO 30, which I kept and moved from car to car. By 1981 I thought I might do a little better in the personalised number business and saw an advert in one of the papers SJO 1. I telephoned the dealer anonymously and had a long but finally rewarding chat with the salesman. Naturally I did not announce myself, but merely asked the price. 'Well sir, I'm thinking in the region of £4000 to £5000' - which I pointedout was not in my region.
But he had other SJO numbers: the single-figure ones, he told me, were very pricey, even the double numbers were not cheap because, according to the voice at the other end of the phone, they are usually linked to a birthday.
'We have got some three figure numbers which people don't want so much of course: SJO 373 which would go well on a Volvo, then I've got SJO 800....thats £120.'
The Olympic champion at 800 metres managed to contain his excitement with a drawled out, 'Oh....yes alright I'll have that one. It suits me.'
'Alright, sir, if you would just give me the details I'll have it processed....your name?'
'Ovett'
'Initial?'
'S'
'Address?'
'Brighton'
'You're.....er.....you're not that runner, are you?'
'Y...e......s....'
The groaning 'Oh' that wined down the phone at me was the noise of a salesman who had just let a pile of cash slip through his fingers.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I stopped mentioning it to see what real interest existed and there was basically nothing at all until a couple of questions asking what progress about two weeks later.
Another attempt to see what interest there was led to no responses at all.
So I think its a case of 'seemed like a good idea at the time' but probably not appropriate for these circumstances.
