Today was peak after-effect day from the Tuesday intervals, and boy did it feel like it!
It was quite an effort to lift the poor old legs up at times up some of the hills. Nevertheless, it was miraculously the fastest 10K so far (just) on a 106 pulse, so can't complain at that.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Snaggles!! Have you seen the asthma nurse for your review yet???!?? if you say you haven't i will have to kick your butt!!!
I haven't ran as have bird flu (copyright snaggles!) and a stupid cough....
no run club last week or this week anyway, back to it in earnest next wednesday if i don't fit a solo run in before then.
Depends on my chest (of the breathing variety, not boobilige!)
I run in cropped trousers, but i have long ones for cold days, my technical t shirts and gloves... i think i would sweat like a pig (or even more than i do already!) if i wore all the layers some of you guys have!!
i am considering getting a Gilet type thingy maybe just to take the chill off but sure i would overheat so it would be vanity only....
I know i go on about Tchibo a lot, but they still have some of the running gear online, and this week they have skiing gear and sportswear, some of which might be the berries for you cold souls out there.... (thought of you re the skiing kit hypno!)I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Hi all,
Just checking in, did 12.5 miles today, offroad and up and down *very big* hills, so quite pleased - took something like 2:11, so hardly fast - but one of the uphills had me slowed to something like 16 minute miles, so not too bad overall.
Keep up the good work, crew!0 -
Well done everyone for running despite the chilly weather.
I went out tonight with my ladies group. We usually have two groups, one running a 1-hour route and another running a 1.5 hour route. Tonight, because of half-tern and chilly weather there weren't many of us so nobody wanted to run for an hour and a half. Anyway, I had a decent run, 6.75 miles (mileage courtesy of mapmyrun) in around 65 minutes. I forgot to take my watch so i can't be sure of the time. I enjoyed it it and it felt like a reasonable pace. I tried to push harder on the hills and go slower in other places. It is good to run with others though. We natter on and I'm not thinking about every step. (OK so I didn't natter on the uphills).
Have just planned Saturday's 10-mile route. Am I getting a tenny weeny bit obsessed so early in my training programme do you think?
Just received an order from Sportshoes.com for some running gear for OH's birthday and there was a little booklet in with the order with sale stuff in. I have just been converted to Asics 2130s and think they are fantastic. I paid £85 for them but in the Sportshoes sale they are £49.95. I'm not ready for a new pair yet but I'll be ordering some anyway to save for when I am!
Happy running everyone!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

I'm so upset - I ran for about 2 minutes and then had the worst asthma attack I have ever had. Had to turn back and come home and I've only just stopped wheezing.
I feel like this  and this
Snaggles, I was so sorry to see that - BUT - you went by the water again and I'm sure that's what did it. Do be careful or you'll have a really nasty one some day, especially if this cold keeps up. If I were you I'd honestly keep right away from the reservoir, or any water in the colder months.
Time to go to your Nurse or Doc now for sure!!!!! Keep healthy, anything else just isn't worth it!

Thanks for the butt-kicking girls, I think after Wednesday, I realised I really do need to go to the doctors - I am going to make an appointment this morning as there is also another thing I'm worried about (also related to the running I think), so I do need to get things checked out. I'm a bit scared tbh.
Because I'd had so many asthma-free runs, I had just put the early problems down to me not being used to controlling my breathing while running, but now I'm not so sure.
Wish me luck today, I really think I might need it."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Don't be scared Snaggles - once you know what you are dealing with, you can deal with it xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Morning All,
Beer tins - glad to hear everything's healing - hope you can get the long run in and arent distracted by *ahem* other things...
Wow idio thats a godo time for that distance!
Chickadee I do that to - I love mapping out new runs and seeing the distances! I've had my 12 miler for Sunday mapped out since Tuesday I think - it gets you enthusiastic about the run I think which is good and takes away some of the nerves...
Good luck at the doctors snags!
Did my easy 4 miles today and accidentally breezed round in 39 mins - oppps it was supposed to be slow! But thats good news for Sunday's 12 miler and that niggle wasnt bothering me at all today which is great. Anyway, I'm off for party times tonight and tomorrow so I'll check hopefully Sunday eve and let you know how the run went0 -
Idio - Nice effort. Speed is a (very) secondary consideration for long runs like that. The distance, and the hills, are enough for your body to deal with. You'll get loads of training benefit from that session.
Chickadee - That sounds like a session that worked out just fine for your purposes. With your intervals being on Monday it would be expected that your worst day for stiffness in the thighs would have been Wednesday. From what you said about yesterday's run (especially pushing on the hills) is it fair to say that you'd pretty much recovered from Monday?
Becky - You're certainly getting stronger as shown by the hills yesterday and this steady run today. There's evidence there that your stride length is slowly increasing, hence faster times for equivalent effort. Its still miraculous how you manage it so early in the morning though!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
