Hi Sally, I was thinking about your knee problem and wondered if it might be related to your shoes. If your running shoes are a bit worn out or if they aren't quite right for the way you run they could be the cause of the problems. It wouldn't be noticeable at first perhaps, but as you increase the mileage the constant pounding will take its toll on your joints if they are not quite aligned right. I had a blister on my foot once and because I was trying to run on the outside of my foot to minimise the pain from the blister I ended up with a minor knee problem as I wasn't running with the correct alignment. Nothing like your present problems but it may be worth checking.
Hope you are soon up and running again soon.
Thanks Chickadee. I did have my gait analysis done back in April and made sure they were a good fit. The little independant shop was great and spent along time making sure they were just right. I think it might be down to the fact that I was running on grass and it was on a camber. Thats the only thing I can come up with that I have done differentlyI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Yes I was definitely recovered from Monday. I enjoyed it too. Having now completed a week of the new programme, I think the easy Wednesday run is essential to get the cobwebs out of my legs. You really know what you are doing don't you Rich?
Today I did the first of my long runs, 10m. It was a beautiful morning and I had planned my route so I was really looking forward to it. My route had some quite testing hills but I managed them OK and really enjoyed the downhills. My legs were quite tired after about 8 miles but I still did it in 1:38 so I am very pleased with the training so far. No foot problems or injuries *touch wood* and a generally happy feeling all round.
Next weekend I will be slightly off plan as I have a school governor training day all day on Saturday and my OH is doing the Lancaster half marathon on the Sunday so I thought I'd join him and do the race as well (but in my head it will be a training run). I am only scheduled for 8 miles next weekend so I will be over that and I realise that the Monday intervals will suffer but hopefully I'll still have time to make that up.
Lots of good work going on here guys. Lets keep it up!
Snaggles - (((hugs))) I hope you are feeling better soon. Do try to keep running, it will help keep the other things in your life in perspective. (Been there).
Yep, you're getting the hang of this - the word 'enjoying' sums up that you're feeling the effects that the training is having.
The reason most runners never improve is because they can't grasp running at different paces in the appropriate sessions and so everything becomes much of a muchness leading to stagnation.
As you say the easy sessions are essential.
And that 10 miler was plenty fast enough - the purpose of the long runs is to improve the muscle energy storage capacity and that is better achieved on relatively low effort running.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Tonight's run was very enjoyable - certainly the clearest sign of strength in the legs so far. Also day to day recovery is speeding up which is one of the key signs of improving fitness.

4lbs is great, Maz - well done :T And remember, it is not just the lbs, your shape will be changing possibly more than the lbs show.

Go Maz GO...4llbs thats amazing. I have actually lost weight this week having done no exercise and eaten loads? So I have decided to get my positive thinking and mind back in gear. I lloked at photos of me in bristol and it really kicked my butt into gear last night. I will be able to run FLM 1 stone lighter than I am now and do it without dying...here you heard it here first. Have decided to do bit of a diary, sorry copying your idea rich, its the only way I will keep on track!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
