Morning All,
Ooo everyone is following a coach Rich plan! Excellent.
OKay so I did my easy 4 miles this morning - phew my legs were stiff form the hill runs yesterday but I did it in 40 mins which is great...
On the not so good front some annoying man was giving me verbal hassle as I got back to my flat and made me feel really scared and angry - what a b*******d!
Oooo I'm so cross now...has anybody else had this problem?
Hi Becky, Yes I have a Coach Rich plan too. Wow he is a hard taskmaster!
On the other point, I do worry about running alone. I always run with a note of my name, address and phone number in case I get knocked down by a car or am affected by some other peril (I know someone who was struck by lightening whilst out for a run!). As far as hoodies and annoying people are concerned, I once had a bottle thrown at me whilst I was out running and I have also been spat at whilst running with a group through a park. We must take care, especially female lone runners, not to put ourselves in unnecessary danger, i.e. keeping to lit areas, paths and ideally where there are other people, or at least a busy-ish road. Trouble is, this isn't always possible and sometimes a country run is just what you need. I guess if you worry too much you would never get out of the door, but it does shake you up if something like this happens.

Nice one Becky - you are certainly getting stronger.
For what its worth with the other matter verbal hassle happens, to men as well as women, every now and again but is pretty much just that.
Its usually when theres more than one person and they're showing off to each other - god knows how jeering neanderthal grunts at passing runners impresses anyone though!
One person on their own jeering is weirder, but still best ignored - it is almost certainly a one-off. It is easy to let an incident put the spooks up you but I honestly can't think of any incidents of people being physically abused in 25 years except a couple of big news stories. So a couple in 25 years brings you back to it being far more important to be careful when crossing junctions than worrying about nutters.
I hope you are feeling a bit better now, Becky.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi Chick,
Thanks for the suggestion!
I always run on a well lit pavement (living in central London) and there's usually a lot of people around...it was just becuase I was yards form my front door that it was a bit scary - never mind over it now. It certaintly wont stop me from running...
Ooo Sally your times are great!0 -

Just to let you know it's not just a girl thing, I get this quite a lot, even moreso in fact, I feel hassled even when I'm not being hassled...bordering on paranoia, I guess...Especially recently when I've been running when there are lots of school kids about, I feel really...hunted, I guess...don't like it!
(it's stupid really, as a 6'2" bloke, who can look after himself, the kids have a lot more to fear from me than vice versa...)
The same thing's true of dogs, I hate them...I run past someone's house and the dog barks out me..all of a sudden I start thinking "what if it runs out and bites me...shall I stamp it to death? then what if the owners attack me? what if they kill me? what will the papers say? 'horrible dog killer sorted out by hero!' NEEEEEEEP" and before I know it, I look down and I'm running with clenched fists, my whole body feels tense...it's rubbish.
Think I'll go back to running when it's quieter and there's less stuff to worry about...
(slightly concerned I've outed myself as a mentalist now...)

It's normally just talk with the kids. Was running through the park and one "heavy" kid - probably the "leader" in his group - started a jogging motion and said "come on keep running". I said he could do with a bit of running himself. His friends laughed, he went red and had no reply. I actually felt bad about humiliating him later, but hopefully he won't be doing it again.
On a nice note about comments, I was running around a lake near my house. There was a boy of about 7 (who I'd never met) on his bike riding round the other way. As the lake isn't huge, I soon came up to him again and he stopped and said "wow that was quick for you", presumably meaning because I was on foot rather than because I'm old/fat etc. I had to laugh out loud at his choice of words though. Slowed down until my laughter stopped and breathing returned to normal.
No run for me this morning. Knee still a bit dodgy so will save it for a long run tomorrow or Sunday. Good work on the running everyone else, I feel really inactive compared to you lot!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0
