  • Managed just over 8 miles last night. Furthest I have ever run in a single trip out (ie not on a treadmill) so I was pleased with that. I might try and make it to 9 miles next Sunday. My time for the 8 miles was 61 minutes.

    Hi Hobsch,

Dont worry - its meant to flexible to you - there's plenty of time to train and walking is very good for building muscle strength and it will pay dividends later on in the programme!

Penguin - wow thats really fast! All that treadmill running must be paying off - good for you!

Sue-UU - you're doing loads - that's amazing as Rich says since you were trying for 2.5 miles a day! Watch out I started out like you and now I'm doing a marathon! I blame the endorphins!

Well done on getting out Maz - 2.5 miles and a swim is really good.

Snags sorry missed your post yesterday when I was typing mine - hope you managed to get your run in today.

    Hi everyone.

Just managed to skim through a few of the posts whilst here at work :shhh:

Snaggles, sorry to hear your news but I'm hopeful he didn't mean what he said about the children.

Sally, you got up at what time on Sunday morning  Are you Becky's sister/twin?:D

I can't remember who did the 8 miles in 61 mins but I'm so envious! Good for you :T

Rich - you doing great :j That's all the people my brain could remember right now, so forgive me the other runners, you are all :A

On Friday I did my 7 miles in 80 mins, which was a tad painful as I was still tired, but I actually managed to get two nights of 7 hours sleep each, ate and drank properly so yesterday I did my second long run of 18 miles and it was a whole lot better than last week :j and I took some Powerade and jelly babies out with me.

I'm not sure what happened this week though, but I had to use the loo a few times en route and the one occasion I couldn't find one, I was glad I wore black bottoms :o . I'm wondering if it was a combination of the Powerade drink, kitkat and jelly babies aggravating my stomach: too much sugar? I don't think I left enough of a gap between each snack either  so I'll try a diffferent drink and bring some water with me for the jelly babies.

I made up my route as I went along (again). My original aim was to head to Canary Wharf but I ended up going through St James and Green Parks, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and return, doing a loop and a bit of my local streets to finish the mileage. This time I did the whole session in 3hrs 7 mins rather than the maximum of 3hrs 15. That included a few walking sessions for kitkat purchase, using the loos and walking whilst nibbling the jelly babies. My pace was 10.22 (I think) rather than the 10.49 my Garmin predicted :j I felt so much stronger this time and enjoyed the run but I should have worn gloves as my poor fingers froze. I'll try the long socks for gloves too - great idea!

No long run this weekend as I'll be away but I'll still do my speedwork and other stuff this week.

    Morning all,
Marathon training plan was for 8 miles running this week and 12 walking.
Did approx 15 walking but only 5 running due to Asthma playing up and having a bad chest. Did try but got about half a mile and knew I would be doing more harm than good. A pain as my Asthma is very mild usually.
Anyway, hope this week is better and hope everyone has a good week.

    Hi Hobsch,

Nothing at all wrong with that, as Becky says, as you've still covered a 20 mile workload.

You've got all your strengthening work done, and weight loss, without putting much damage into your legs. So its all good in improving your power/weight ratio for later.

You'll feel the improvements week on week.

Thats an impressive first attempt at 8 miles, Penguintron.

What are you aiming for, if anything, and what other training are you doing?

Well done Poorbabe - you're doing the hard work now that should ensure your little excursion around Negril is enjoyable rather than a struggle.

Two 18 milers under your belt already suggests your strength is certainly going to be OK.

    Hi all, I'm back!

Thanks for all the good wishes on my wedding day, there were a couple of them just around the time we would have been signing the register. The wedding day was perfect, just as we wanted it and we even had good weather for most of the day.

Likewise the honeymoon went really well, 2 weeks on Ischia and Capri sunning ourselves and relaxing, with the odd bit of sightseeing thrown in, but nothing too stressful. On the upside we're nice and tanned, but we both put on a fair bit of the weight we lost in the run-up. Drinking every day + liberal amounts of Italian food + little exercise (well, it was our honeymoon so there was a fair bit :D) will do that.

Obviously it all cost us a fair wedge, but I'm still hopeful of being debt free by the end of the year (depending on how expensive my car repair this week is going to be!).

Snaggles, I'm sorry to hear your news, I hope you're doing OK.

Everyone else, I hope the running (and everything else) is going well, I haven't had time to read through all the posts but I expect many of you will have continued to surprise yourselves with your progress.

As for me, well it's been nearly 3 weeks of no running now, so when I run on Wednesday (just over 3 weeks and my first chance for a run) I hope I get round OK. Am aiming to go back to my 4+ miles 3 times a week + footie + long run at the weekend. I'll do the 4 miles on Thursday (if I can still make it!) and see how my body takes it before deciding when to head out again i.e. ease myself back into it. After that I'll start thinking of my training for my half mara.

Logging off again now. Got loads to do and catch up with, but will check in again (and hopefully catch up on the thread) later this week.

    Beer tins.

It is dark, and it is raining - so this is going to be my first test of how much I really want to do this running lark

I have just eaten my dinner, so will need to wait an hour or so for that to settle, but then I am really really going to try and drag myself out of the door and round the block. I have mapped out a new 3.2 miler, but whether that is achievable or not remains to be seen.........I really will be taking a raincheck!!

There have been some good distances and times from you guys reported today :T

No running for me today only jaffa cakes and some hob nobs whoops!! Actually I have a sore muscle around my knee and I must have slept funny last night as my neck is so painful today.

Isn't it funny when you first run that you get so tired and sleep REALLY well, now it doesn't seem to have that effect..guess the body has adjusted
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
