blimey - I have just worked it out, and we have 9 weeks BEFORE we need to start our 18 week schedule!

any ideas from you wise guys as to how we should do this - should we do the first 9 weeks twice? Should we do something completely random for 9 weeks then start the training schedule..........sort of like sitting lard like on the sofa eating chocolate and then doing the 18 week beginners run, or what

    HELP!!

Hypno.. noooo.. step away from the chocolate... :rotfl:

I've got a training programme that someone on a running forum emailed to me, aimed at the Edinburgh marathon (end of May) but starting in October, which I thought was pretty well put together - you're welcome to have a look at that if you want, could always adapt it a bit.

I think you are both more advanced than you think are.

I also think in 9 weeks time if you are putting in reasonable effort your programme will probably be obsolete and you would need to be looking at something different. 9 weeks is a long time in running and you will achieved much. Whatever way you look at it, you are doing fine!

thanks you two - squizz if you can send me a link for the schedule you have, I would be very interested to see it.

My only target..........is that when I did the marathon before I did it in 5hrs 16 mins the first time, and 5hrs 18 mins the second time (with a broken foot!) so I would REALLY like to achieve a time that begins with a 4........P ran it a couple of years ago at just over 5hrs too, so we both have the same sort of track record (although obviously mine is 15 years older than hers!).

I didn't have a training programme last time, because I had been running most nights for about 3 years......used to go to a couple of running clubs so generally did whatever they did. Whereas this time I am starting from scratch with 6 months to go, which I find a bit scary!!

Also, last time it was pre-kids so not the same restrictions on time and energy that there is now. I thought that if I had at least a "loose" schedule to work on, it would help to keep me on the straight and narrow and make sure that I didn't put off a run until there is more time in the week (of which there invariably isn't!).

You wouldn't say that on some of the other threads on this forum. You would get a lot of offers to dispense it :rotfl:

Seriously though you will be a fine. Hope you find a programme that you can work with. Why dont you aim for something like 4.5 hours (or whatever) and find a programme which aims to get you round in that time?

4 hrs 30 would be a dream and very very respectable!! It really is a case of getting to 10 min miles (not the 11-12 mins we are doing at the moment) and then just extending the milage I suppose.

If we can do 10 min steady miles all round, we will achieve our goal.........:D

    Hypno

I am sure that our lovely Rich will do you a training plan? He has done a fab one for me which I am about to start week 4 of and it takes me up to the marathon. You are welcome to have a look at it but he can probably adapt it better to your time constraits/days/mileage.
Well done you for getting out there today.

Me on the other hand am feeling very down today and not looking forward to running tomorrow :( Don't know why almost feel like I can't be bothered at all. Hey ho onwards and upwards can't give up now
