Anyone know if it is still OK to run after giving blood? I have a blood donor session at 3pm today but still want a little run tonight.

I know it isn't on the list of dangerous activities (hang gliding, deep sea diving, etc) but just wondered if it is OK.

I'm pretty sure I've been eating less, or at least definitely in smaller portions. Actually not weighed myself recently so I've no idea if I've lost any weight or not! I do know that I've not been eating properly over the last couple of weeks though - combination of attempting to budget and being too knackered to cook - and I really do need to get a grip on that as I'm starting to feel it now :o

chickadee, personally I would not run after giving blood, but would do a power walk instead. I think, though, that it comes under the heading of "common sense" - we all react differently after giving blood and only you know how you feel!

Don't push yourself though - you don't want to pass out half way round!

You can usually get away with light jogging, but best do nothing to be safe.

For 24 hours or so your body can't deliver oxygen to the muscles at the same rate, so you reach your limits much earlier.

However, donating blood is good for you in terms of enriching your blood over the next few days.

  • Forgot about this thread! I'm still running a few times a week since I lost my weight back in July. I lost a total of 20 pounds in 28 days and it's pretty much stayed off (only a pound put back on, mostly water weight I think). Running 10km in ~48 mins at the moment.

Been out a couple of times this week but it's getting cold out there isn't it!

    Thanks Rich,

I'll see how I feel and if I feel OK I'll have an easy jog but I won't push it. I am feeling really energised at the moment from my running so I don't want to lose the momentum.
Looking forward to my 'enriched' blood supply any day soon :j

for some reason i love running in the winter but aren't so keen during the summer. I just love that feeling of wrapping up getting out there and battling the elements. (don't love the frozen wind in earache feeling though) so invariably stuff cotton wool and have ipod over the top!!!

Hypno and i are heading out in an attempt to run 5 miles tonight!! i ran 5 at the weekend but got kinda stuck at about 3.75. so should be a good test for both of us!!

Will update how we get on later. xxxx

On this subject, has anyone got any good recommendations for some good running gloves?

My hands normally warm up after half a mile, but it's not nice feeling all chilly to start out...
