Question for you all. Now as I have a ballott place and don't officially have to raise any money, I would however like to do something for charity. So I have decided to donate half of money raised to DD pre-school but I need another charity. Yes there are hundred but where do I start! Does anyone have any charities that are close to their heart?

When I finally get round to doing a sponsored *something*, I'll do it for meningitis research or somesuch...gf had an aunt die from it a couple of years ago and it came *very* close to killing me when I was younger, too...

    Endorphin Dumping Time!!

Yep, I'm sorry but another bucket load of endorphins to throw into the mix:

Just done another easy 10K which, in the context of the last few days, shows some nice progress:

    Sat 4/10 10K 1:02:46 (Pulse 116)
    Sun 5/10 10K 1:02:21 (Pulse 118)
Mon 6/10 7.0 Miles Brisk Walk
    Tues 7/10 10K 00:59:40 (Pulse 122)

What I'm most pleased with is that the legs were feeling really strong after covering the full marathon distance since Saturday evening.

This is only after 5 weeks of light training, most of which has been walking, so it seems the body has got about 2 weeks ahead of itself somehow - but I'm not complaining.:p

It is also interesting to think back to this time last week when I was abandoning a 10K run at the 2 mile mark due to heavy legs. As always it is just the body saying it needs a little more rest and nothing to worry about.

    Oooh, I do like endorphins.....:p:p

The first thing is that none of these sessions should ever put anyone under pressure otherwise they defeat the whole point - which is to try to encourage people to run long term.

I'm a bit concerned about the thinking behind it though - it looks just cobbled together. You'll probably guess that I'll say the 3 mins walk shouldn't be in there, but the fact that its after a 5mins slow jog kind of defies logic.

To train new muscles even easy pace is what is required. If I was you I'd set off as slowly as you like and ignore the walk. Then if you feel like you've got something in reserve push on towards the end.

Ultimately, you're not there to obey anyone, but to get out of it what you want to get out of it.

Y'see it's a jog scotland approved plan and it's not a small organisation and i guess the background must be well researched and thought out.... it really concerns me that advice and opinion can be so varied!

I will do as you suggest and go easy then try to have something in reserve near the end, although TBH i will probably take the walk 3 mins purely because if i carried on running and then struggled again later, they would say it was because i didn't take the walk!

I do seem to need a "rest" quite early on in any run, which i think is quite common... then i can carry on easier thereafter...

    Thanks coach!

    It does me too!

Especially when I've looked for explanations as to why they are recommending something to people with untrained muscles that runners with trained muscles would cringe at!

The only explanation I've found so far is 'It allows running muscles and walking muscles to rest in turn'. Now any idea what 'walking muscles' and 'running muscles' are? Because I haven't. Everyone has the same set of muscles which are all used in walking and all used in running.

Muscles are naturally in a relatively inelastic state and have to be teased to relax. After anything more than 1 minute of walking the tightness will return quite rapidly and, by rights, another full stretching program should be done as you would do before the start of any run.

    Hi Sally

My ideas for charities would be Scope - for cerebal palsy people - my sister has cerebal palsy and would love to run but can't even walk properly so if i ever do a marathon I will be running it for her!

She also does loads of volunteer work for the samaritans so I would love to be able to give something to them....

Personally I am not very charitable:rotfl:

Right off to meet Mr Hunk and meet my fate:eek:

Are you all out running....I am on a high!!! Woo hoo!!

Running club was fantastic and Mr hunk is phwoar......

There were four of us - two better than me and one slightly worse than me. He kept tabs us on us all and supported us two donkeys at the back....

Did a warm up and then set off....bit of a faster start than I am used to but I settled into it and we did four miles....just as I was settling into my comfort zone we did some 20 second sprints, then another jog and then some hill sprints:eek: which were initially hard but got easier...then we did a cool down and stretch..

I feel a million dollars and i am going back next week..

Thanks for all your charity ideas. I need to check that DD pre-sch is a charity although I am pretty sure it is as they are ALWAYS fundraising
I do have some other ideas about a local hospice that could do with some money and maybe british Heart Foundation, my dad died at 58 to a HA and it runs in the family although there maybe some issues with this

Oh I wonder how are super Sammy is getting on??

What a fantastic run you! And bonus of having Mr Hunk...think I might move so I can come too :rotfl:

So did you feel you pushed yourself or was it a comfortable run? Does he have a plan for each week so you progress or will there always be new people that keeps the group back?
