Hi Sammy, You have to go now to let us all know what [strike]he[/strike] the running club is like. I love the name of the website Well-fit.co.uk It takes me back to my school days, when all the 5th-formers were 'well-fit' to us first years :o .

I am going to the well-fit gym anyway, but have got up today with tight calf muscles....I have also promised to do a four mile run with runchum tomorrow night....along with the five mile run I am doing in Worcester on Sunday I am begining to think maybe joining the running club this week may just be too much.

I will see if I can talk runchum into coming to the running club with me tonight, if not will do a step class instead. Will give you the low down later.:rotfl:

I also want to wipe the runs I have put on the nike+ site but I can't fathom how to do it...Im no technophobe and its not complicated but it just doesnt seem to show you how to do these simple things!
Might try one last time to calibrate it (mean I will have to get a mile run in sometime)

It took me AGES to work that out...silly FAQ's are rubbish and don't explain it properly either! I managed to wipe them though...when I come home tonight, will plug mine it, right it down and then let you know later on tonight!

When I caliberated the thing I did it for 400m or about 2 and a half miles...will find out exact figure later too...

In the words of the Schwarzenegger...I'll be back...as I now have to drag my DD outta bed!

    Morning all,

So I'm on week two after my lovely rest yesterday...and I did my 4.25 mile fartlek in 37 mins!!!!!! I am totally dead now and in total need of a shower (yuck), it was funny because I could tell I was really pushing myself and I felt like I did when I first started running (all heavy and red and really hot and really out of breath), but my legs just kept asking more of my lungs. I'm so happy I was aiming for 40 mins and I got 3 mins under that - next weeks target is 35!:j:j:j

Gosh that's a random ramble - hope everybody else is okay this morning! :D

Morning - busy couple of days for me but I should be able to squeeze in a run tomorrow evening. It's going to be an 'easy' run though, definitely no more than 3 miles.

I've bought this fab thing for my neck - it's one of those wheat bags that you put in the microwave but it's quite long, so I can drape it round my neck like a scarf. I used it on Sunday and my neck didn't go into spasm at all. Wish I could take it with me for immediately after I finish running! Any suggestions as to how I can microwave it in my car? :p

Gosh, that was quite a performance with 10 miles being in the legs from two days ago. 8-45 average pace must mean some of it was around 7-30 pace.

That appetite for more in your legs has come from the combination of speed and distance work that that your body is bedding down.

All going in the right direction - and yukky weather is great for this sort of run!

I'm buzzing for you after that one!

  • Morning all!!

Not had time to post last few days - been busy, had to actually do some work at work!! So well done all on the running achievements over the weekend I bow down to you all!!

Chickadee congrats on GNR - saw some on telly wasn't the weather fab?!! OH laughed as I hopefully called you all running 'fellow athletes' - he doesn't feel that my little 'pootle' round the field is very spectacular. He is one of those who has been there and done that in the dim and distant past - did it better that anyone and probably still could :rotfl: !! if only he could be bothered...................!

Purchased some of them sorbi... thingys yesterday online so expecting them to arrive today (first proper running purchase) didn't tell OH. Figured that it would be cheaper to buy them and keep using my cheap £5.00 Mr T's trainers for the time being and more MSE! Does they help prevent the dreaded trainer pongs?!!

Well seemed to have reached a crossroads, as I dont have a specific training plan and no real sort of goal, just want to be fit(ter) and who knows might even get to feel a little competitive in the future...... Do I continue to do approx same run Mon-Fri with weekend off and concentrate on time or do I aim to increase distance, but not run every day? I am concerned that as it is early days if I miss a day or two I might get out of the habit and while I have to walk to dog in the morning I might as well run?

I do like the feeling after - it does kind of set my energy levels for the rest of the day and wouldn't want to miss that feeling - any ideas??

Also does running make you want to eat different foods? I'm lucky that I don't have a sweet tooth - normally, however was persuaded to bake some Nigella choccy cookies last night by DD and OH and wanted to eat one!! Being a Nigella recipe it certainly was no holes barred on the calorie front!!!:j

    Morning Notapenny,

My what a lot of questions!:p

You have however hit on the crux of the mysterious motivation thing. 'To Get Fit' is the biggest killer of motivation simply because it doesn't mean anything - you can't focus on it and close in on it as a target.

So you do need a target and it needs to be something you can't do now, then you will feel really chuffed when you get there. It might be 3 times round the field or 1 mile or anything else that would feel like some kind of milestone.

The next question re distances is down to you and how you feel, but if you want to gradually run a little bit further you will make more progress by doing slightly longer runs less regularly rather than shorter runs every day.

Oh, and welcome to the world of endorphins! Yours is only a mild dose so you can probably imagine why we're always in a good mood. :p

  • Oh I know so sorry for all the questions - its a bit like being at infant school again - you know the 'why' and 'what for'!! At my age if I don't get everything down in one go - I forget!! Amazes me how I manage to find my way round any field really and then to remember why and how I got there!!!!

So I actually timed my 1 mile this morning - was headwind for the first half and did it in just over 11 mins - good, bad or indifferent?!! I walk 1/2 mile there and 1/2 mile back - should that be counted in overall distance? I use that as my warm up and cool down. I have to say that if I thought i'd be able to run for over 10mins three weeks ago I would have slapped myself round the face for being so stupid!!! But hey I can!!

Mmmm Endorphins quite nice aren't they!!!!!

Hey 11 mins is great per mile!

So I think you've set yourself another target already...runing for 20 mins! Dont rush to get there though - Rich is great for laying out plans to acheive things.
