if chris's half was double that time, then that makes me feel better cause as far as i'm concerned Chris is a running machine... so it puts things into perspective....
Thank you!
far from it but thanks anyway. I have only ran two half marathons and did not train specifically for either although I was pretty fit at the time. There would be room for quite a bit of improvement on that. We are all able to improve on our distances and times. In case you are looking out for me, my number is white (different colours for different start areas) and is number 16974.
I will be wearing a white t-shirt and black 3/4 leggings. My bin bag is prepared (OH has tried his on and paraded around the house 'modelling' his)! :rotfl:
If I see Sally Gunnell and a camera I will give you a wave.
I'll report back with full details of the goody bag, toilets, medal, t-shirt and other general information later on Sunday. The V+ box is set to record and I have that funny feeling in my tummy that I get before a big race like this.
Right. Deep breath. Here I go!
thought this was worth repeating... keep your eyes peeled!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
um yeah maybe not...think I will stick to aiming for a 2 hour half to start with :rotfl:
It is good to start with a realistic challanging goal for yourself and then the sense of achievement will spur you on to the next level“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
puts my 2:36 to shame doesn't it

how realistic would it be to aim for a 1:30 half marathon? thats a 7 min mile ish
Sally, the serious answer to that is 'YOU can do 1-30 if you WANT to!'
It would take 2-3 years to get there with a progressive peak and rest program and probably 45-60 miles per week of training.
Its the kind of time where the races thin out dramatically because not many people are prepared to put that amount of work in.
In reality, it doesn't seem any more effort doing 60 miles than 30, but it depends on an individual's motivation.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well, for me its still only one session a day (possibly 6 sessions per week) so its just part of your routine like anything else you do on a daily basis.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I would love to be able to do one session a day but having a child, work and study committments stops that unfortunatley. Being able to provide a better life for DD (by studying and getting better job/money) at the moment is more important than my own needs of running. 3 sessions a week gives me enough of a running fix at the moment

There is something anatomically special about these guys in terms of the volume of training they can tolerate!
150 miles per week is just a mind numbing workload.
I've tried pushing the limits and with all the will in the world my body was breaking down at 80mpw, so I really don't know how they do it!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
