As impressive as today's result was in the men's race I think it just puts last week's performance in perspective by Haile Gebrselassie in the Berlin Marathon.
His first half marathon last week was 1:02:04 which would have placed him 6th in today's race.
He then continued and ran the second half in 1:01:55 which would have placed him 6th in today's race.
And he has promised Brendan Foster he will run the GNR to try to add to his 26 world records. I can't wait....
PS He's already done 58:55, 59:15 and 1:00:03(on that tough Bristol course), so when he puts his mind to it he might become a half decent half marathon runner!:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I think he's offered to run in a rhino costume to give the others a chance!

:rotfl: Yeah, me too!I will have to run it then. Give him some competition
I was struck by the thought earlier that, as it's 3/4 of a mile from the back of the pack to the starting line, I would actually be tired before I'd even set off!
I am hurting now
But I don't think its anything drastic, just achy muscles. I did go for a walk this afternoon (round the shops counts, yes?
), and it wasn't too painful, even in high heeled boots. "I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Evening! Not sneaking in today, just been out for a run and I did 5k in... 36 mins!
Usual struggle for the first half mile or so but then it all kicked in and started working. Only walked once, briefly, when I discovered that the little loop I'd added on to make up the distance was up and down an incredibly steep hill - won't be going that way again, as it was also a little bit secluded and I didn't feel totally at ease round there (weird how it can suddenly be so quiet off the main roads). Anyway, pretty pleased with that, especially after two weeks of doing very little (and a night of drinking and dancing in high heels last night)! Off to look at the map to see if I can figure out a slightly flatter route for next time.

That hill will do you a lot of good. If you keep doing it you will look back and wonder what you were fussing about in a few short weeks.“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0
