Fastest is 2:48:58, second fastest is 2:52:22.
But that fastest one was very, very disappointing as I had gone through 20 miles in 1-58 and was all on for a sub 2-40. But I didn't know the course, which had been described as fast and flat, but there were stiff hills around 22 miles which I hadn't held reserves for so it fell apart. I went from 10th to 47th in that last stretch. Bear in mind there was a brand new car for winning there was some decent prize for 10th place awaiting! Drat!
drat drat and double drat. Why have a course with hills at mile 22..that was like Bristol It nearly killed me! So that 2:45 marathon target would be your PB then! Thats pretty good going rich..I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

It costs around £3,000,000 just in appearance fees to get the top guys on the start line of the London Marathon.
So thats where my entry fee's go....I say put more goodies in the bag :T and stuff having appearances..if they are serious and any good they will be there anyway! :rotfl:I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

It is only in recent years that athletes have had professional status. Before that it was all brown envelope stuff.
The effect was to kill off most regional marathons. But most appearance money is paid by sponsors. Paula gets around £500,000 each time she stands on a marathon start line.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

We will see - but you have to have stretching targets to get motivated!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hello all :hello: Well, I watched most of the GNR coverage, didn't spot Chickadee - hope it's gone well for her. Can't believe the under an hour half marathon time.. blimey!! It has inspired me to get my lazy self organised though, especially reading the messages at the bottom of the screen about why people were doing it.
Am either going out this evening or tomorrow morning (gulp) - running stuff is out ready so no excuses! I was aiming for a 30 min 5k by the end of October, so I've got a 5k route worked out, I might give that a go and see how much time I need to knock off.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
