So this is it:
1. Go to largest sportsshoes retailer in the world (their description). (But why is it always empty?)
2. Go directly to 'Sales' section. (No passing Go and all that guff)
3. Quick scan of boxes eliminating anything with price tag over £30.
4. Select cheapest pair that comes in size 10. (Hopefully £10-£15)
5. Try on.
6. If comfy (which they always are), buy.
7. While sales assistant is ringing purchase through (and suggesting I might like a gait analysis, supinate, pronate blah bla blah) take shoes out of box and whip out insoles (I hate those that are glued in). Ask if bin handy and throw away insoles.
8. Put Sorbothane in.
9. Away I go. All done in as little as 2minutes (5 max).
Because the place is usually empty theres generally 4 young kids looking at me as though I'm a clueless imbecile ( I am, but thats not the point).
Its not as though shoes have an endorphin rating - I might take a bit longer if that was the case.
I've never had sore knees, ankle problems, hip problems etc so since I've done this at least twice a year for 25 years since I was 17 there can't be that much wrong with it.
So, what exactly is so weird about what I do? (Don't worry you won't hurt my feelings
)
There you go!

Okay - this is where I get a bit scared! I normally run 4 miles....but i do run/walk/run/walk.. I struggle for the first bit and then get better towards the end (perversely)....
I haven't done many races so really wouldn't know what my race speed is..but I guess I could just run faster than I normally do for a mile (why is it so bloody hilly where I live?)
What do you do in the half a mile recovery - just run slower

What is the benefit of fartleks?
Sammy do you think you might be able to do run/jog/run/jog? how long are the walking bits for? Ideally you would be better to get to a stage where you are running the whole 4 miles. When I say faster than race speed I mean faster than its really comfortable to run normally. I feel like I am about to keel over when I am going at full pace if that helps :rotfl:
In my recovery I just run at easy/normal paceI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Sooo, I go to our local sports store, not sure if it's 'the biggest one' but they're great and cheap (as I said, trainers for a quid today) and find the cheapest running shoes/trainers, then buy some insoles, and I'll be able to run :T

Sorbothane insoles, available on Amazon. Guess what I'm buying next time I get a freebie voucher

Along with some very thick socks, to fill me size 10 shoes :rotfl:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

I find when i try to run the whole four miles negative mental attitude takes over and i have never been able to run for a whole four miles...i find i am quicker when i run walk ...this is how I usually go ...run for five mins, walk for 1 min run for 5, walk for 1, then i do a couple of runs for ten to twelve mins, walk for half a min.....I then seem to be able to go for longer the further I go...Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford
