  • y'know i actually find it tougher running on grass..... i suppose it's cause i need to pick up my feet more than on road/pavement....!

Am i the only person who looks at other runners when i'm in the car or dotting about... i love to see how much people pick up their feet, or use their arms.... funny how some of the best runners have really strange gangly arms (thinking of some of the ethiopian runners etc in olympics!) rather than tucked in...

coach - what purpose does the arm action have? might be obvious but can you explain?
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I think runners are one of those things...you never notice them until you join them, then they seem to be all over the place all or a sudden...

I think it's also perfectly normal to find running on grass harder - the surface is more uneven, you do have to pick your feet up more - often have to jump over wet patches etc...Plodding along on the road might be harder on your joints with the extra impact, but I think that's about it...
  • i should have been having my 0.5mile swim again today but my mum is away for the weekend (i know it's tuesday but she ain't back yet, how selfish!!) so i haven't got a childminder....

she will be home tomorrow and said i can squeeze one in on thursday am, but i have swimming class on thurs night so wouldn't swim twice in 12 hours - i'm not that keen!!

the only other option is to swim on friday morning, but as swimming thursday night it still seems a bit excessive, again it would be twice in 12 hours....

NOT FAIR!!!!!!! I WANNA SWIM!!!!!! pah!

How's the economy? Potentially stuffed is about the summary!

Summary of yesterday : The governments of UK, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, France, Austria, Belgium, USA and The Netherlands all had to either rescue banks or let them go under.

And that was before last night's disaster which has been described as cataclysmic by normally sober journalists.

I think everybody should be keeping a keen eye on what's going on at the moment.

Roll on Thursday for another US attempt at a rescue - although that may have little effect.

    Interesting times......

sooooo notapenny, we can deduce that when you do have to hit the pavement that you might actually find the running easier albeit your joints will not thank you for it!!!

Very little in terms of propulsion for 10K+. Main function is balance and so any movement should be minimal and in a forward motion.

Increased pace comes from increased stride length but it has to come naturally. Trying to extend stride length in normal running will cause 'overstretching' injuries.

    Does that answer the question?
