I don't know guys, can't leave you alone for a second can i!:rotfl:
SO SW was the ouch this morning due to a hangover perchance? If so get out for a run will clear your mind!! Glad to here that sleep is coming easier for you now. You certainly sound a lot happier then when we first met which i'm really pleased about. :T
My hair is naturally really curly. If i leave it to dry alone and not spend three hours with the straighteners i end up looking like a baby shirley temple!! not a good look at my age.
It's so nice to hear (in a good way) that other people have body hang ups to. (Other half's nickname for me is hamster.. can kinda give a woman a complex!) But i guess we all have wobbly bits dimpley bits round bits etc etc. and i don't even have children as an excuse!!!! :rotfl:
That training plan sounds good cnoelj will give it a go sometime.
Re the shin splints, try not to run on treadmills if you can help it as it is an unnatural movement and will cause you to overflex your ankles. So will slippery grass so try to run on tracks or dry grass. Some people advise running throughthe pain of shin splints but it's your bodies way of telling you to stop. also make sure you warm up thoroughly before you go off out.
Yes time can be an issue for me, esp with the distances of the last few days. and i've drunk a few cans of red bull to lately to keep me alert on the roads! so is a double whammy. no runs and loads of sugar:eek:
And BA, put some trousers on!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (only cos i'm jealous of the bronzed legs!:rotfl: )debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Hiya seawyn, good to hear you're still on board. I know how work can take over sometimes, just having a little lull between appts so quick mo to jump on.
It's amazing how much ground we cover. shame we don't have any of those step counters, they advise 10,000 per day don't they?
And kilimanjaro!!!!!!
i don't have a clue what you mean about smut. this is a respectable motivational running thread don't you know!:rotfl:debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Just done a hard work out
easy run to the local park where there is a speed skating track and did pyramid speed work.
It works like this:-
1 lap at a good 5k -mile race pace
1 lap recovery
Then repeat for 2 laps of effort and 2 laps recovery
and repeat for 3 as above
Then bring it down to 2 laps and then back to 1 with the appropriate recovery laps
Therefore it is 12321 effort alternating with 12321 recovery.
This can be adapted to suit your needs. Bear in mind the following though
1) The easy and recovery elements are just that. The work is done with the speed elements. We want to be bringing the heart rate back down between efforts.
2) When working on the speed try and keep it consistant throughout. In other words ensure that you dont start so fast that you cannot maintain that speed towards the end of the session.
It was hard and hot. I am sure I felt better during the half marathon on Sunday! Felt really good afterwards though
hot?? its pouring with rain and bloody freezing here!
sounds like a good session though - is your track free to access? i have no idea where there is one round here0 -
Pania
Hi Pania, Im trying, still bloody hard though, just more realistic I guess now
Yes was a little fragile this morning but over it now, didnt have many either, cant take it like I used to, seems to be since the running actually, after the half marathon the other day, had a few guiness to celebrate and was feeling quite slushed after 4 or 5, still carried on though - hee hee

At this time of year if I get there in the morning during the week I am on my own. Evenings and weekends it tends to be full of skaters. From October to April it doesn't seem to be used much at all.
This routine can be improvised. Any circular path in the park of between 200 - 400 metres would do. I am sure running around the parimeter of a football pitch would work well too. Of course if you have access to a running track that would be perfect. You could even run along a straight path for the required distance and then turn back for the recovery part of the run.
I have always found that if you are prepared to be a bit creative you can sort out loads of different training models for yourself. No doubt I will be sharing some of mine over time on this thread.
Have fun with the different things that you try. If something doesn't work quite as well as you expect nothing has been really lost and you have had a workout
Oh by the way I would not recommend this kind of work for the complete newbies amongst us. Continue to gradually build up your milage and / or minutes running. There is plenty of time to build in aspects such as speed and more serious hill work.

Afternoon all! Thanks for the advice re the shin splints. Was out the door this morning at five past six before anyone was awake and it was beautiful - warm and sunny. This morning consisted of warm up, then 5 minutes brisk walk, then alternated a minute walking and a minute jogging for 20 mins, then cool down. Does this sound like the right way to be starting? (was going to continue like this for a week and gradually increase my jogging minutes.) Also, shins not painful when taking it slowly like this.0

Absolutely the right way to start, build up very slowly, when you are running you need to be at a pace when you can still talk, if you cant talk you are going to fast.
You might get a few looks talking to yourself but hey ho!!22/07/07 Debt - Tesco 17644 (6.1%) - Now 10500
