LOL - just got to brag. Have run with OH in the past and no matter how much training I seem to do he just gets up and runs. He has been working away for few months and has put on a few pounds and not run as much as he should.....

Well today I did my 'short' training run of 5K and he came with me. Except he turned around and went home half way through....(he took a short cut home!) YAY......I was laughing all the way home. I even did it in 31mins which is quite good for me. I even ran for a full ten mins and the last bit of my ten mins was up hill... I feel I am improving somewhat...

you go sammy. Its amazing how quickly you can loose fitness. I think I read somewhere that for everyweek you fail to train (guess this would be professionals) it takes 6 weeks to get it back.

    Heya everyone!
Had a good run yesterday, did a 9 miler at average of 10 mins 28 sec minutes per mile. Felt horrendous at 6-7 miles but then started to feel better and was getting quicker at 7+ and felt like I could have carried on!
Really looking forward to the half next month! Will be upping the long run by 1 mile per week now so that I can manage a 13 miler 2 weeks before race day. Feeling confident but only problem was silly vest top rubbing against my arms when I ran, won't be wearing that on the day then!

    Hi everyone

can I join in on your 'club'? I need some inspiration to get my shoes on again and get out of the door, until April I was running 5 x a week (about 30 miles) but then I lost my mum and stopped, gained weight and with the debt and depression that followed have spent the last few months feeling rather sorry for myself, I need to get back out there but always seem to have an excuse, someone give me a kick up the ar**:rotfl:

milliemonster, of course you can join! Now GET OUT THERE AND DO SOME RUNNING!

    lol. Did that help?

If you want more encouragement, regular exercise has been shown to be at least as effective as medication in treating depression. Give it a go, even if it's only 10 mins a day to start of with or if you need to stop and start.

I've been losing about 1-2 pounds a week since I started running a few months back, so that's another obvious benefit.

Now for my own update, I ran my first 10k in training yesterday! I'm well chuffed with myself :D10.23km at a pace of 5'06" which works out at 51 minutes over 10k. So I know I can finish 10K and do it in a respectable time. Can't tell you how pleased I am with that.

I'm going to try to push for a 45 minute finish in the Nike 10k on the 31st, but I won't be too disappointed if I don't make that target. Am running 4'40" in my "normal" (shorter!) runs so I think it's possible to improve that to 4'30" in the next month.

Thanks :D I didn't think I'd improve this quickly. I have been running about 4 days a week for the last 3 months though. When I started I was nowhere near that.

Didn't run this morning, but I'll be running about 3.5k to 5-a-side football this evening and back again. Well, perhaps I'll get the bus back if i'm really wrecked!

Just to add, I did run to football last night, but not back. We had no sub for the 5-a-side so I was too knackered by the end of it! Did another 5k this morning though to make up for it. Hope all of your running's going well...

Is everyone on holiday? Or just taking a break from the running?! I woke up this morning feeling stiff all over, a delayed reaction from football on Wednesday I think! No running today. Maybe I'll have a soak in the bath tonight and go for a long run tomorrow if I don't feel so stiff.
