I normally run around 06:30 in the morning (as I did today) and it's far easier going.

I'd like to run in the morning too, but OH goes out at 5am, and can't leave 7 year old in house alone, even if it were just to go round the block... even though the likelihood of her knowing i was gone are slim to none.... i have to do my running in the evenings..

Fair enough, I don't have the responsibility of children (yet), so I really have no excuse not to be out running in the morning!

5k is probably enough in this heat :D

Im Back and a week away and everyone appears from the woodwork....Chris :) Lovely to see you back and hey Maz, im not that bad am I?? Now get to it lady!
Well I have been truely awful and went for my first run on Sunday (which was 1st one for nearly 3 weeks) not only that I have eaten like a pig and put on 9lbs in that time....truly impressive!
So 9 weeks until my half marathon so have seriously got to get training!

Anyone got any opinions on HR/GPS/Distance monitors/watches gizmo. I really really want to get something and can't decide whether to get a cheapy Polar or a Nike + or the all singing dancing Garmin
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

    Hiya Sallyx!
Never really ventured out onto this thread! But should do really being that I do love my running! Just wanted to say about the Nike + / Garmin thingy...I have a Garmin 305 and it is a fab bit of kit! Very clever indeed! I got the 305 but afterwards found out that the 205 in exactly the same just the 305 has the heart rate monitor included, which I hardly ever use! I paid rather a lot for mine Garmin, pre MSE days of course! But saw them on Tesco website the other day for about £85 quid or something like that, so they are dropping in price, probably due to the lovely new wireless 405 model! But saying that, I know a few peeps with the Nike + thingy and that seems WICKED and now I want one of those instead! I think they work out a lot cheaper too if you have the Ipod already? They have some very nifty features like you can hold down the button and your fav power tune will come on and it talks to you telling you how much left you have to run, how far you have run, minute miles etc and tells you off if you are running too slow! The Garmin is impressive, tells you how fast you run, times, distance, calories etc and can also help you find your way home if you get lost and lots more if you can be bothered to read the huge booklet that comes with it! What half are you doing then? Take it you picked one in the end? :T
I missed my usual Sunday run due to a crazy weekend, but will get right back to it tomorrow as have to do a 5 miler in my lunch break...thank god for showers at work! Phew! xxx

When I started running last year, I went from not being able to run to the end of my road, to running a half marathon in 14 weeks and I loved it soooo much, I signed up for another half and now have my third in September in the form of the Chippenham Half Marathon!

Thats the thing Donna, I just can't decide whether its worth splashing all that money on the garmin or to settle for the nike + which has lots of feature that are great...basically I want a mix of the 2. If the Nike + had a HR monitor I would def buy it...grrr

Donna that was me in March this year, however I haven't actually done my half yet. Meant to reply to you earlier too...yes have decided to do the Bristol, was just easier to get to otherwise I would definately done the chippenham one with you.

Have you applied for the FLM 2009?

Did a 3 miler this morning and will be out again on thursday morning

The Garmin is a very nifty bit of kit as can do sooo much more than I use mine for; I did read the huge manual once but then forgot all the button combos etc so only really use it for distance, minute per mile pacing and calorie burn really. I was mega shocked to see the price of them on the Tesco website the other week! Only think is, I used to find myself looking at the watch every few minutes which disrupted my running so have had to force myself not to now and only really wear it once a week on my longest run. Once run, you plug it into your computer and it shows you your route and times etc. I know there is a site which you can use to download routes onto the Garmin and also if you run the same route on a regular basis, you can set your first run to be like a ghost runner and then every time you run that route, it will beep at you if you are too slow or fast (like I will ever seen that day!) but I would never hear the beeps as I run to music all the time!

If I am honest, I used the HR monitor the first few times, then forgot about it! :o Should start using it again really...

The Nike + kit looks wicked though and I think I would have preferred that, but I didn't know about it at the time of buying the Garmin :( Do you have an Ipod nano already or would you have to buy one of those too? I like the funness that you get with the Nike stuff and if I had the £££ I would get it! You can link it up to their website and monitor all your runs etc...I want one :( Boo hiss to being poor!
