  • OOH, please can I join? I'm new to MSE website too, so want to get fitter and less broke!
I'm new to running, and did a race for Life (5K) in 30 mins. I'm thinking of a half Marathon in March so next steap is more walking and swiming. Swimming after work tomorrow, anyone else going for a dip?

  • Brilliant Maz! I got round in 46 minutes with a troupe of my 13 yr old daughter's friends for company! NOT my pb, but what a great atmosphere.

Blimey PR, that is a very respectable time for 5K, new runner or not! I don't know whereabout you are, but there are lots of halves around in March - Reading is a good one if you're in the South (in that's it's mid-sized, plenty of support, well-marshalled etc) but there are loads of others all over the country. Runners World website is a good resource - sorry if I'm telling you things you already know!

hi guys, thanks for the well dones!

    Where race were you Forgetmenot?

There were loads of kids at this RFL in Aberdeen today Not sure how i feel about young kids being there, but i guess if they have numbers then it's okay. Altho some were boys, which i think defeats the purpose of a womens only race.... lots of young teenage girls, which is to be applauded.

Hi purple reindeer, 30mins for 5k, wow you sound like a runner to me!!!!!!!

Next run on wednesday night with runchum, see, not giving up after RFL!

  • Chelmsford Maz - sorry, I'd heard the Aberdeen one was wet! We had the sun beating down on us, which was uncomfortable too!

To be honest, apart from the standing about prior (and we didn't arrive really early tbh) i would rather run in the rain any day of the week.

sunshine, lovely as it is, just kills my running!

    H Guys
Can I join, have dedicated myself to get fit this year and m doing a 10k in October, went to the gym today and did 1 mile in 12mins so 6 miles should do in just over 1 hour. Also decided to get my finances fitter as well, coming up to year anniversary of hubbies death soon so determined not to sit and feel sorry for myself got to think positive and get on with life at 44 theres plenty of life left in the old bones.;)

A tall order indeed hun!! but if anyone can, you can!! - will he be timing you?

Kiora - hi and welcome to the thread! sorry to hear about hubby though.
12minute mile is good, but don't expect each mile of 6 to be the same pace.... unless you're running that kinda distance already. but if you can do 1 mile already then you'll be good for 6miles soon enough.
