Hello (Maz3374 told me to get my bootie here)
My fitness goal for this year was to be able to jog/run 5km by the end of the year. I started off walking for 30 minutes once a week (for a month), then twice a week (for a month), then three times a week (did that for about 3 months) increasing the distance / route over time.
Because I'm manic busy at work now until August, I decided to do my walk/jog/run in the mornings but I knew I wouldn't have time for up to 5km walks so it was jogging all the way. Yesterday - started off with a minute warming up and some stretches then jogged back home, stretches, collapse, shower off to work.
This morning I went out again, warmed up for 2 minutes, stretched, jogged, stretched and chilled (about to shower and pootle off to work).
Googlemaps tells me I've gone from huffing and plodding my way through 1km walking to being able to jog it - twice in a row. hopefully I'll speed up so I can go round the side streets in 15-20 minutes which will be about 2.5km each morning!
Thank god I bought some proper running shoes though!

Yay Cat!!!!!!!!!

sound like you are doing great! We're all sorts of runners in this thread, some marathoners and some never will be marathoners (like me! still at run walk really!)
Keep posting your exploits as it's lovely to have something to look back on and see how far you've came!

Hi Cat - making great progress there!
I managed to walk to work (2.5 miles) without the leg hurting this morning so should hopefully be able to start my running routine next week. Think I'm going to go for the plan where you do a certain amount of time 2/3 days a week then aim for a particular distance at the weekend. Think I might need to check out these New Balance shoes...Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I didn't go this morning, but in my defence it's the only day this week I didn't. May go this evening or do long (40 minute) run this weekend which should cover some 7-8Ks I think. Hello, can I join the runners thread? I've just discovered our financial crisis but I'm also a runner... half marathons mostly but I did the London marathon last year and if I can sort the flight and accomodation, I'll be doing the Loch Ness marathon in October. In the meantime I'm doing Race for Life on Sunday with my 13 yr old daughter. We've raised about £15,000 over the years, mostly for Children With Leukaemia.LBM 16/06/08 - Credit card debts June '08 [STRIKE]£49,145 [/STRIKE].... Feb '13 balance £38,478 ... We'll get there0

Hello Forgetmenot!
Welcome to the gang, impressive fundraising total!
I'm checking in tonight to report on my exploits, last run before RFL day on sunday.
Previous best was 20mins non stop, but this time we managed run25mins, walk1min, run25mins, walk1!!!!!!!!!! so chuffed!!!!!!!
The 25mins was how long it took us to do 1.6miles! very slow i know but hey ho!!
Total fundraised so far for RFL is £145.00, which is ace as wasn't going to try for sponsors, just do the race and make a donation. The peeps in my little office were generous, couple of £20's, couple of £10's and the boss gave me £50! The other £'s were friends and family.
Looking forward to raceday now.... resting tomorrow!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Hi Maz - thank you! The fundraising has been over 5 years, with both my husband and I running and asking our friends and family to sponsor us! No one wants to open and email or letter from us any more.... I'm a pretty slow runner by the way, it doesn't come naturally!
I'm doing R4L tomorrow too, with my daughter. I hope you have a really good run.LBM 16/06/08 - Credit card debts June '08 [STRIKE]£49,145 [/STRIKE].... Feb '13 balance £38,478 ... We'll get there0 -
thanks hun!!
I think sponsors appreciate it more that you do the run when you're not a natural born runner!
Goodluck to you too, and to all RFL-er's this weekend!!!!!!!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0
