Thanks. I've done 4 miles on the last two Saturdays and do 2 miles most mornings, so upping it to just over 6 miles should be OK I think. I'll be doing several 10K runs beforehand though!

Only recently started this running lark after years of relative inactivity, but I'm pushing myself and I need goals to work towards!

4 miles to 6 is doable,on the day with race atmosphere etc. Even if you don't cover the distance prior. But i think you will easily.

I'm no expert but having a race to aim for is key i think.

My RFL is this sunday, 5k. Then in july there is a local half marathon, which also hosts a 3k, so i will be doing that, the 3k not the mara!!! Should be do-able after a 5k.... if i trained hard i would love to do another 10k before the season's out but not sure i'd manage...... maybe aim for septemer time?

keep posting re the training, and of course the wedding plans!!

Todays discussion...... music or not whilst running?

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=3493 (let me know if the link doesn't work)

Personally i like the notion of having music to run to, but when i've tried it lately the music has been too fast paced for a plodder like me.....

The only song which fired me up but at a pace for me was Like a Pill by pink, quite slow really but with gritty lyrics.... liked transvision vamp baby i don't care/ crash by the primitives but too pacy for me..... (these were existing songs on Big G's ipod, which he uses for weight lifting, so probably not the same as running, of course)

I know IA's will be cradle of flith/megadeath by bondage merchants/heavy rock stuff... with a little bit of GnR thrown in!

I used to run to music but I find that it can be hard getting stuff at the right speed too. I also tend to get too wrapped up in it and don't pay attention to where I'm going! :o

i_a, I approve of your choice of music, will you be my friend? ;)

Covered 4km this morning. A combination of sprinting then walking alternately. I understand this is a good way to get your fittness up, does anyone know more about this? I sprint about 300m, then walk about 300m, but am not sure if that's the way to do it! Was propper knackered at the end of it, so it must be doing some good!

I'll be going out tonight. Aiming for run15 walk a minute x 3 tonight....

parents night at school, so unsure how i will manage to fit it all in though!

Might be a late one and involve driving over to runchums........ has to be done though, and to be honest i really want to do it so no hardship!

Hi all, updating the thread for the benefit of my history, i really should create a spreadsheet!

Feeling elated as managed run 15/walk1(strict 1 minute only, no fannying!) /run 15/walk 1 and run 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes, 20 minutes non stop running!!!!

We knew that existing route in runchums village was only 2 miles, so we had to extend it at start which included a lovely stretch along a clifftop path, not brilliant underfoot so it was a gingerly plod rather than a jog, but it was only 5 mins of it,the rest was pavement and a bit of grass.

Felt so good to get to end of last 15 and think "what the hell shall we do an extra 5"

    Needing a shower now though!

    Hope everyone is doing okay?
