Hello runners, sounds like you're all doing well!! Just got home, still bloomin tired but what a great experience!! We started off at 11.45pm (after hanging around since 8.30, wouldn't turn up that early if I did it again, even though they tell you too, there's no need!)... and got back 8 hours and 52 minutes later. Found it hard around 2am when it was at it's darkest, and when we hit half way - on a freezing cold seafront at 4am  The atmosphere kept us going though, all you could see in either direction was a long line of pink hats bobbing along :D Had just mildly achy feet and legs until somewhere between miles 21 and 22 when the inside of my left thigh started to object, shortly joined by the right one, so did the last couple of miles in a curious "shuffling cowboy" style :rotfl:Sooo amazing though to come over the finish line with loads of people there cheering.

Was very stiff yesterday, and so tired, only had about two hours sleep in the morning - was out like a light last night though, and feeling just a bit tight in the legs today.. I think it's a bit like childbirth, you say never again when you're feeling the pain but afterwards you forget how bad it was :rotfl:

Thanks Maz for the texts - it really helped with the motivation! xx

    Thanks IA! :)

Forgot to add.. as well as the pain in my thighs, we decided that if we waited in the stupidly long queues for the toilets we would seize up, so nipped into some bushes at about half way round.. all I have to say is nettles + bum = ouch!!!

    Hey Red!!!!

So proud of you! 26 fricking miles!!!!!!! well done!!!!!!!

my less impressive exploits for today need reporting in....

Had to take Erin to Brownie BBQ at 6pm in a nearby village today so arranged to meet my runchum there, which was well out of her way, but we're so glad we did it.

Lovely quiet country roads and then back thru a trail thru the back of a country house estate.... couldn't believe how well we managed to navigate our way around a strange place, but we just kinda followed our noses and looped back to where we started.

Anyhoo, ran for 15 again, 1 mile! then a wee break (pee'd behind a tree!) then 15, then short walk then 15 again!!! Covered exactly 3 miles, so again race distance. The walks were short as we were only out for 50 mins all in all, 45 of which were runs.

Runchum normally keeps me motivated but i had to gee her along in the middle of set 3.... but we finished on a total high!

Feeling optimistic about this running malarky!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Well done red that's brilliant going, hope you had lots of fun as well!

  • Squizz, photos are amazing. Do you get that goose bumply feeling when you think back. Really brilliant, well done you :j

IA - off road running is so so much more harder because you have to concentrate more on the uneven surface and not tripping, being injured etc. I always feel like I'm flying when i am on a road but on the trail paths it is more like careful treading. In fact, managed 9 miles on Sunday without any probs :j until the end when I tripped on a boulder like stone - ok maybe a smallish stone - but it still hurt!

Re running buddies, when I first started I absolutely hated going out on my own and if my run chum didn't turn up I wouldn't go. Training for the marathon meant I had to do a lot on my own, and I could push myself without having to consult anyone else. I also tend to run quicker on my own as I'm bored and have no one to talk to

I'm finding it really hard on my own. 1 to get the motivation in the first place and 2 to actually push myself round. Could easily do 5km of walking/running with runchum but now am only managing 1.4m max (admittedly all running when on the road) and feel like I've taken a step backwards. :(

Do you take music with you when you run? That always helps me. Also I have milestones in my head and it seems to help. If you do a route quite a lot, tell yourself that you CAN run to that milestone and then walk for a minute when you reach there, and then do it again and again. I feel like I have proved something to myself when I have got to that milestone and think I can do it again.

When I really couldn't be bothered to go out I would take some chocolate and reward myself when I was half way :rotfl:

Have you also recorded your runs to see how well you are doing and give yourself a boost. If you visit fetcheveryone.com you can log all your training, races etc and I quite liked seeing that, made me more motivated.

You're doing brilliantly though, I would just put it down to an off day x

I'm definately running longer... before I used to manage about 1/2 a mile without stopping but can now do 1.4m on the road.. I guess it just seems so much harder on my own! I do take music but my earphones are rubbish and keep falling out.
