Well done Luc, I was supposed to be running this morning but been feeling a bit under the weather so have postponed until this evening...sleep was more important than running this morning!
Anyone got any ideas how I can loose weight when running...up until now Ive been loosing weight gradually but since running ive found it near impossible as Im so hungry and then I eat more and the weight just isn't coming off. Quite fed up really as I thought all this exercise would help me (although more than happy that I am much much fitter!)
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

    Thanks sally.

I don't wish to alarm you but i read an article the other week that said a woman needs to run about 50miles a week to lose weight but an man only about 35!

Are you sticking to same circuit/same pace? Maybe introduce some intervals, changing pace and adding lunges etc to shake things up so your body isn't able to predict whats coming next. Plateaus can happen in any kind of training when your body gets used to the routine and learns to do it more efficiently.

Also, if you're eating more what type of food are you eating and have you tried having a glass of water then waiting 15 minutes to see if you still feel hungry?

Hope you feel better tonight - don't push it though, a night off when needed won't hurt.

    Hello all <sheepishly sidles in>

Well i'm not wholly impressed but i have been out again so that is progress.

Went out the other night, after being inspired by IA, only did a 3 mile walk as just wasn't in the frame of mind to run at all.

However was out friday/sunday/monday on the bikes last weekend, with circa 4 miles each time, so excercising but not running.

Anyhoo, runchum is back from honeymoon and RFL is about 10days away, but she is tired and sluggish after her holiday and her return to work was manic so she has pencilled a run in for friday after work. (this was yesterday afternoon)

So i decided to go home, get into my running gear, don my new ironman watch, and go out on my own. Of course, being just in from work erin wanted to see me so i got her to get her bike out and she cycled with me (mostly ahead of me TBH!)

Only aimed for run5/walk til recovered/run 5 and so on. Which i managed... had to slope off behind a bash for a pee at one point, which is okay as we live in countryside and route is very quiet! Plus i figured that it was better to go pee than having an excuse for stopping and walking!!

So thanks for wondering where i was Sally and rest assured i am now back!

This RFL will be a run/walk affair for me i think, but i am going to do my best.

Red - pep talk time! Noone doing this moonwalk on the weekend will have put in near half the training you have!! so please do not worry!! Enjoy the cameraderie, enjoy the emotion of it, and above all enjoy the sense of achievement you will get. you'll be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IA, have you got new shoes yet?

50 miles blimey! I think I run probably 15-20 miles a week! Have been doing various routes just to keep it different and last run I did was very hilly so really felt that when I got home! As for the eating, just about everything in site....its rediculous and Im not stupid I know I need to eat less than I burn off to loose weight.
Right plan of action is to right everything down...

I used to always be desparate for something to eat when I first got in from a run so I make myself have a glass of water and go for a shower before I do anything about food by which time its dinner time anyway and I end up eating normally.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance and advice, I still feel a little bit nervous but can't wait now :D Got everything packed, know where I need to be when etc.

Sounds like everyone is doing great! :T

As for losing weight, I would try adding in some different exercise, maybe a session or two in the gym? Got to say I've barely lost any with all the walking but have toned up a fair bit. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat as well ;)

    Can I join?

Me and OH don't really have debt except student loans and mortgage, so I'm not really a DFW, but we are saving for our wedding in October so we apply the same money saving principles!

Anyhoo, my main motivation is dropping some weight before my wedding, I'm male, 31, 5"8' and 80kg, so some room for improvement there. At the moment I run about 2 miles a morning, 3 days a week, plus another run of around 4 miles at the w/end. I run at a fairly fast rate, the morning run takes me about 20 mins. I'm looking to improve my fitness as well. Does anyone know any races of around 10k I can enter to give me something to aim for? I live in South London.

I'm somewhat alarmed that someone posted I need to run 35 miles a week to lose weight! If that's true, I've got to up my game a bit! I only recently started running and am improving, but 35 miles seems a steep target to me!

:hello: Welcome - the more the merrier!

I would suggest fitting in some resistance work as well - since I started running to the gym and doing some weights I've noticed the weight start to come off again. Also, if you run the same route at the same pace all the time your body learns to do it more efficiently and so uses less energy to complete the same run. Introduce intervals and hill runs to mix it up and keep your body guessing. Try doing your normal circuit in reverse. A couple of us have done this and been surprised at how many of the 'flat' bits on th enormal direction turned into uphills when reversed!

As for the 35miles - just be gald you're not a wench - we apparently have to do an average of 50 miles a week!
