JB and Lucifa great runs there, I hope to do a 10k soonish!
SW thats a good time, just hoping the half goes ok for you too.
Well got up at 5:45 am and went for a run, 3.6 miles in 38 mins so quite pleased with that considering on friday it took me 42 mins.
going to have to go and get some decent running socks and trainers though, have managed to get myself a nice blister on the ball of my foot...awwwww

To see me walk today you'd hardly believe I could run 10m let alone 10km!!! My calves have totally solidified and I can barely manage stairs.

Still keen to keep it up though - next target race is in September when I'm doing the 10k at the great Scottish Run but I'm thinking I'd like to see if I can squeeze on in in July...

Oh - did a treadmill test with New Balance yesterday and the guy gave me a right telling off for wearing the wrong kind of trainer. He said a lot of injuries could be avoided if every new runner did a treadmill test before setting foot to pavement and most good running shops will be happy to provide one with no sales pressure

I was having major cankle (calf/ankle) pain with my Fila trainers but i changed to New balance and the pain has gone entirely.

I know if i went for a test i am still probably wearing the wrong shoes, but these ones are working for me now.

I must make time for the check soon.... preferably before my RFL.

On another note, sort of, gadgety note, i have found a timex ironman watch in M&M sports catalogue for only £14.99!! (RRP £35) This one does splits etc so perfect for run walk people like me. At the moment my runchum owns the watch, also an ironman, but hers is a mahoosive bulky thing with metal face, and this one appears to be a more sporty plastic one, so have decided to let big g treat me. He's needing new trainers so will be placing an order soon.

M&M sports are great for sports gear, really cheap, plus 4% cashback thru quidco!

Just found this on the 'free courses' thread whilst looking for something else - looks quite interesting!

Edited to add - well, it did except when you click the 'register' button it says it's no longer free!

I can't see anyone looking to me for advice on their running skills! Even if i was qualified to do so!

People used to look at me funny when i said i went running before (previous 5k's/10k) and i don't think anyone believes i will manage this 5k either.

But will prove them wrong, of course!!

Just been emailing my runchum to decide whether to stick with the RW programme which has steadily got us up to run8/walk2 x 3, but now looks like this... seems very variable, and i'd rather keep progressing upwards. Must be like that for a reason though, eh?

    WE ARE HERE -
Thu Run 10 mins, walk 2 mins. Do twice then run for 5 mins
    Fri Rest
    Sat Rest
Sun Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times

    Week Five
    Mon Rest
Tue Run 9 mins, walk 1 min. Do 3 times
    Wed Rest
Thu Run 12 mins, walk 2 mins. Do twice then run for 5 mins
    Fri Rest
    Sat Rest
Sun Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times

    Week Six
    Mon Rest
Tue Run 15 mins, walk 1 min. Do twice
    Wed Rest
Thu Run 8 mins, walk 2 mins. Do 3 times
    Fri Rest
    Sat Rest
    Sun 5K Race!

We have got more weeks than the plan allows, as our race is not until 22nd june i think... and we're not really on the right days of the week either, but hey ho. we've done the right times in the right order, just on the wrong days! lol

That programme looks good. It is like that for a reason. You cannot do hard workouts everytime and it is good to vary them. Having said that if you feel you can do more then do it. Just be wary of doing a hard work out every time. It is good to sometimes go out just for the sheer enjoyment of it. To remind yourself why you came to running in the first place - for fun.

I think that programme will do its job to get you through and put you in a good position for an extra effort on the day.

Like cnoelj says, your programme looks good - the ups and downs allow for resting and active recovery so stick at it.

make sure that you get any new kit well ahead of time and have at least one run in your outfit for the day to make sure there's no discomfort or problems. (I speak from experience here - I got a new set of 3/4 trousers a week before the run. When I tried them on my practice run they kept falling down - that could have been a tad embarrassing in a crowd of 12,000 plus!!!)
