  My runchum let me down again, she was going out for her tea and somehow thought that she would be fit for a run about 8-9pm... we always struggle if we've eaten, so i purposely didn't have any tea, just a banana and cereal bar. Then she called and said she was just leaving town (25miles away) and wouldn't be up to a run. NOw i'm not annoyed at her, well maybe a little for thinking she would manage in the first place, but i'm really really annoyed with myself that i didn't just go out on my own!!

She promises to come again tonight and i reasoned with myself that i wouldn't want to do 2 days in a row so sat on my fat bum and did nothing.

But now it's been 6 days since i last ran and i know it'll be harder because of that.....

    humph!! sorry for the rant!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

I wouldn't feel guilty as guilt never achieved anything. Rather see what you can learn from that experience and put into practice for next time.

You may need to assess whether you have a bit more commitment than your friend. If so you need to follow your own goals and aspirations rather than be brought to the level of anyone elses.

Perhaps running on consecutive days too often may not be the right thing for you, but it may be good to experiment occassionally. It is good to trick your body in to doing things it is not expecting and adds some variety to your routine. Very very occassionally I have run twice in one day. This helps to work on your self discipline. I must stress that you should not go overboard on this and overtrain but the occassional extra effort will reap benefits.

I managed to do the same run today as the other day, but ran for about 60% of it, rather than about 30% on Monday :D so i'm well happy. It was still only about 4 minutes long haha!!! I'll get there!!

  • Everyone is doing fab on here especially in this bloody heat

I ran 7.1 miles on Monday night (after a Sunday all day BBQ - ouch) in 1:05hrs but I had to have 2 walk breaks because of the heat, never done that before but I am struggling like hell in this heat.

Cn is right, consecutive days running is not ideal, you muscles need time to relax at this early stage; Dont be afraid to cross train, ie gym, swim etc

CN- Seemed to have picked up an ankle/achilles problem post marathon, running on it is OK but resting i aches like hell, every had it?

Well 2.2 miles is 2 'circuits' of the track we do on cannock chase. 3 of them would equal the RFL course.. so working my way up to doing that. :)

    Can I join you?

I've been in training for the last 11 weeks for a 10k this Sunday. I've been doing it by myself as my OH can't run for any distance (old rugby injury to knee) and there's no running club where I live.

Good luck with your run IA - nearly there!

Maz - If your friend lets you down again maybe just go out on your own, I used to dread running alone but in actual fact I enjoyed it a lot and often go off alone and then keep to my own pace.

SW - glad to hear you're still plodding on.

I am a bit down about running at the moment, knee is still not good and looks like I can't do my race on Sunday. All the stamina I have built up has just gone
