Hello! My name is jamtart6, I can't run but I can try! I have 8 weeks to get into shape, and with the weather being so nice, I decided it was time to try running. I'm majorly unfit, so just took it easy this morning, ran for about 3minutes around the block, but had to run to a lampost, then walk to the next , then run then walk. I am hoping to do this every day and hopefully I will start being able to run for the whole circuit, then I'll build up how far I run.

I know it seems pathetic but Im really proud of myself for trying! Do you start noticing yourself get fitter? I do NO exercise usually

Welcome jam. :) Don't worry it'll all build up eventually... a lot of us are finding it hard to run in this weather as it is! lol!

    Hello peeps,

Of course nobody minds!! That is what the thread is here for and we like to hear of your progress.

Right breathing - I am going to set you an exercise.

Start by observing your breathing at different times of the day. When you are relaxed and also when you are less relaxed. Most of us dont breath correctly most of the time. The less relaxed are the more likely we do it wrongly. Are you breathing from the bottom of your lungs rather than the top. Your stomach should be expanding as you breathe in and contracting as you breathe out. In other words it should not be your chest moving. Concentrate on exhaling, pulling your stomach in as you do so. If you are breathing out you will breathe out automatically.

If you practice this when you are not running it will be much easier then to do it when you are

Cnoelj, thanks for the breathing exercises, i am working on them as we speak!!

Didn't run on sunday, runchum had a hangover bless her, but was out for a 4 mile walk earlier that day so not beating myself up over it.

Sally, 32mins with no stops! Wow!!!!!!!!!

My legs ache after my efforts of yesterday - just shows how out of shape I have let myself get!!

Hi jamtart, well done on starting! I started much the same way as you last summer and I felt the benefits very quickly. You really do feel fitter from just a few minutes running.

I used a programme which builds up gradually and takes you from running for 2 mins at a time to 25 mins nonstop over 12 weeks. I'm sure such programmes are easy to find over the internet, but if not I'll gladly share the details of the one I used. It worked for me.

Everyone is doing brilliantly, especially in this weather. Think I will go out again tonight, my insoles were brilliant last time and so hopefully can nudge it up to 4 miles tonight and see how my knee is. Have got a 10k on Sunday, have no idea how I managed to do the FLM, have now seemed to have lost all momentum

Hoping the desire to lose a little extra weight will inspire me to start it properly.

    I'm impressed IA!

Haven't been out since last thursday (4 mile walk on sunday, and 2 mile cycle home from brownies yesterday? but not been running)... going out tonight, run8/walk2 x 3 again.

    Wish me luck!!
