Most of them are training for the Plymouth half marathon so were doing 9 miles, but there was a lady who took me on a smaller route. I managed 2.73 miles
I don't think I did too bad for my first run, had to stop along the way, but I think I've got the pace right.
I'm planning on another run before next tuesday, see if I'll do better this time.
I think I'm the only 'beginner' so not sure I'll stick with the club, I don't want to push myself too far too fast. I have a friend who wants to start running, so may just go out with her until I can build up to 9 miles.

I think you are doing fine, as someone else said, we all started somewhere and I can certainly remember my first 2 mile run and it was hell, couldnt breathe, legs were like 2 tonne weights etc etc
Perserverence and everybody will get there, its now down to your willpower, you have all started running/walking now so that brilliant. Re Plymouth i am doing the Plymouth Half this year as that is where I live, pm me and tell me which club you tried?
Running in Hot weather is obviously harder but as long as you take on lots of water before and during, you wont get dehydrated. As a test and I found out this from my running club, if you pee and it is clear you are not dehyratde, if it is yellow you are dehydrated. Drinking water is crucial, I never used to bother but it makes hell of a differance.
Everybody is doing brill on here and I reckon there could be a few half marathons coming up

Hi all.
I did a one mile Fun Run on Sunday, came 27th out of 90 with a time of 8 mins 19 seconds. I was pretty chuffed as it was my first ever mile and I was aiming to do it in under 10 minutes.
I was eclipsed by my two daughters who were 1st and 2nd in the Under 16s race, with times of 5 mins 32 and 5 mins 34 - so proud!
I'm thinking of entering a 10k in July, though it seems a big jump from one mile. Has anyone got any suggestions for how to train for this?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Wow sea!! That is ace! an 8 minute mile is really good. I'm sure you could manage a 10k fairly soon as long as you trained for it and paced yourself! You are quite fast, so might need to bring it down a little for the further distance.
why not start with your local RFL this year, it's only 5k. Then aim for the 10k next year.... although i imagine you could easily do it, you obviously are fit already.
10k is roughly 6 miles, so think whether you could do what you did x 6.I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -

Secondly I am not sure that 6 miles is as big a jump as you think. Just increase your distance at a comfortable rate. How about if at first you just increase by 1/4 of a mile at first to see how you get on? That is one lap around a running track. Do that once or twice and then increase by the same distance again. At some point you may feel that you will be able to increase by a longer distance - maybe I/2 a mile. You shouldn't feel that you have to maintain the same pace and if you have a walking break or two for a couple of minutes that is fine also.
The other thing is that you should not feel that you would have needed to have run the whole 6.2 miles before your event. If you have done 4.5 miles a couple of time in training I am confident you will be comfortable on the the day as long as you dont go too mad.
Just continue to enjoy your training and your running and you wont go far wrong!“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
Gosh everyones been busy
Maz, hey don't worry about missing 1 training session, you have obviously been busy exercising!
Sea, great time on your fun run, had to laugh that your daughters overtook you though!
Southwester when is the plymouth half? thats not too far a distance for me to drive to get to...depends when it is as to whether I can train for that distance in the time left!
Went out for my run this morning, same distance but I thought I was going the same speed but managed to run 2.2 miles in 21 mins so was very happy with that. So much easier running in the cool morning air. Also walked 3 miles to take dd nursery....my legs are aching tonight!I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Keep running
I went with the Cannon gym running club, I think most of them are training hard so won't want to slack to keep up with me.
I am going to keep going out on my own, and see what comes at the next session, might be another beginner who will go with me, if not, oh wellSouthwester when is the plymouth half?
