You are all so good at running - and I have been very bad and done no training for Manchester 10K on the 18th may. I also have a wedding to go to on the Saturday night (oh the excuses) and so have an entry going spare.

If anyone would like to pm me they can have the entry, i would like to have the money i paid out for it, but will consider giving it to someone who is running for charity - i will ask for evidence.

Well done guys, i think i shall read the whole thread and get some inspiration!

Back to the gym today as my ankle is feeling better, still twinging slightly, but ok. I went for my first run with the running club! Most of them are training for the Plymouth half marathon so were doing 9 miles, but there was a lady who took me on a smaller route. I managed 2.73 miles :D I don't think I did too bad for my first run, had to stop along the way, but I think I've got the pace right.
I'm planning on another run before next tuesday, see if I'll do better this time.
I think I'm the only 'beginner' so not sure I'll stick with the club, I don't want to push myself too far too fast. I have a friend who wants to start running, so may just go out with her until I can build up to 9 miles.

    Evening all!

Went out for my first run in two weeks. Did about 3 miles in all, knee started playing up after about 2 miles but I perservered. Have come home and iced it and seeing physio again tomorrow so more optimistic, it didn't feel any where near as bad as last time.

Well done on the run IA, is so much harder in the sun!

Well done you for going along. I think you did fab to do 2.73 miles...I would have died doing that as a first run. Don't feel bad about being the only beginner, all of those running the 9 miles will have been in your shoes at some point. Maybe give it a couple more runs to see how you get on and get to know some of the other runners.

:j Yay well done JB, hopefully the physio will sort you out, but 3 miles is a good start if its still niggling a bit

Well done everyone on getting out there (and not melting!). JB I hope the knee is OK soon, it must be frustrating.

I've done about 7 miles today but not all in one go - walked to work and back, went out at lunchtime and did a couple of miles this evening as well - can't seem to sit still at the moment!

    Have you been out today???
Im trying to decide whether to run or not tomorrow. I still have horrendous sinusitus and been ill for over a week and a half. Have continued to run all this time and now thinking its not been a good idea. Will see how I feel in the morning I think

    Hi Sal et al!

Re your post above on sunday - i didn't manage to get out. We had a nieces birthday party in the am which resulted in her coming back to stay with my daughter for a sleep over. There just didn't seem to be any time!!

But have been quite active anyhow.....

On monday i took the girls swimming and thankfully they are of an ability/age where they can knock about the pool themselves safely and i was able to do a fair few lengths myself. I'm not a brill swimmer, but i "plod" along in the pool, i probably only did 12-15 lengths, but for me that felt like a good workout, and i did try to keep a pace up.

Then later that day (after taking neice home to aberdeen) Big G, Erin and i went out on our bikes and did a 3.5mile route. Felt hot but nice to be exercising and to be doing something as a family!!! (rare event!!)

Today i had a hospital appointment so finished work mid morning, and was done in time to meet Erin from school, which is a mile walk, so another 2 miles exercised!!!

Tonight me and my run chum went out and managed to do run 7/walk 2 x 3.

It was difficult first set, and breathing was poor. but i kept telling myself and runchum what you said Sally, about breathing being easier after the first five mins or so.

second set was easier, felt reasonable, had the 2 minute walk and then did the third set. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! I was sooooo "in the zone" my breathing was perfect, my stride was up and apparently my pace was good, runchum said she had to dig in to keep up with me!! (unheard of! i usually have to dig!!)

It was truly the first time i have enjoyed the running, rather than the buzz that comes afterwards!!

Can't wait for my next run on thursday!!

On a crappier note, i weighed myself and haven't lost a bean!!! clothes are maybe starting to feel better but not hanging off my 'arris! So hope that comes sometime soon!!!! Will not be dishearted!

    (sorry for long post!!)

and a big well done to everyone who is doing so well!! Especially in this gloooorious weather!!!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
    (it's part of my charm!)
