Hi cnoelj,
I agree on the mental thing. When following the schedule, I tend to find myself mysteriously losing form a bit during the last minute or so, probably thinking, thankgoodness I'm near the end. It must be mental, as I've been managing to gradually increase the time running without too much trouble.
Something I need to get the hang of is breathing better. I'm trying to time it as my feet hit the ground, but I tend to end up breathing too fast, and having to take several very deep breaths. It must be more efficient to develop a rythm.
The worry I have about being outdoors much is that I'm deaf. I have visions of being ran over by a lorry (!) Glad it's the summer now as the canal footpath must be fairly safe, and I am right next to the Penines which must have some good paths. Don't know what I'll do in the winter, but one thing at a time.
Worry that all these fancy gadgets will detract from the simple task of running. I can normally tell when I need to slow down, and whether my heart rate is too fast.
Yeah, I was assessed in a 'Sweatshop' store two years ago, and I'm a moderate overpronator. Might be worth going again to see if I need to alter my shoes. They are nowhere near 500 miles yet though.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '

Hey all, had my gym review today, my instructor is all for my joining the running club, so that is where I shall be on tuesday!
He's changed my program and increased the time on the bike & treadmill to 20 minutes, and I'm extremely chuffed with myself as I managed the full 20 minutes running first time!
I've also been given some weights to do, to increase the muscles used when running, leg pushes, crunches & lat pull down mainly.
Really looking forward to tuesday now!

Sally - Dont go on your run today, have a rest, you can overdue it and before you know it an injury, muscles need time to recover;

Thanks SW, I think I will see how I feel at 1pm when I would go. If I feel ok then I might just go. If I reel rotten then I will tuck myself up in bed and wait until I feel better. Where abouts are you SW, taking that you are probably in the south west?I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Hello to barcode, kidding on they are a newbie, sounding fairly professional to me!! hi to everyone else! mind that knee JB!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
How many rest days do some of you take? I run Tues, Thurs and Sun as per the programme. I sometimes do other cross-training, mostly go to the gym and use the elliptical, rower, or weights. I like to have one day of not doing much though.
What's been the experience with running clubs? I have visions of everybody speeding off and leaving me standing there. When a website says beginners welcome, I don't find that helpful, as to them, a beginner might be somebody capable of running for an hour. Maybe a quick e-mail will resolve that.'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '

I'm not qualified to speak but seen's i'm here..... i do 3 "running" sessions a week, dependent on other things i have on, it can vary which days.
We're doing the runners world beginners 5k programme, and are doing the right sessions in the right order but not necessarily on the right days. On other days i am reasonably active, 1 aerobics class per week on a non running day, and some easy cycling with DD and/or 1-2 2mile walks with dogs each week.
Lots of lazy time, mostly whilst at work doing not much!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0
