    There is a slightly different action on a treadmill to the road. You are concentrating on keeping your balance on a treadmill and maybe this causes you to step down harder - I dont know. Ask someone you run with next week to observe this and perhaps help you to adjust your action.

  • Fantastic run IA and everyone else.

    Just getting ready and then going to go out for about half an hour, maybe about 3 miles, very easy. Blow off the cobwebs and fingers crossed my knee is ok.

    Report back later!

  • Hello all,
    hope you don't mind me joining. I have made the big decision that I must start to get my fitness back, seems to have gone since having my three children and I am hoping that I might get some inspiration from you all on here. I made the decision that in 2010 I would attempt to run the London Marathon so my first step is to run the local race for life. I have two months to train so here goes...........
  • Welcome Amber, its good to see someone with realistic goals, a lot on the Marathon website have entered London 2009 because they fancied it on the telly. im all up for First timers but I think theres been a knee jerk reaction to entering as the fisrt 80000 space went before Monday night, when they could enter whilst watching it, the London marathon site should have waited for a week or so when all the Euphoria had died down and then the serious first timers would still want to enter - Just my opinion

    Maz - Breathing at some stage is an issue for all of us, I was given some advice once, and that was to try to stop panting, which I still do going up hill despite trying to stop. They say that if you can talk whilst running you are going at the correct pace. This will increase the more you run, the lungs haev to get used to what you are doing, its new to them, bit like the legs as well;

    Im really impressed with all of you on here who have taken up the challenge of running, just one thing IA , rest is as important as running, your muscles need time to recover, dont go overduing it, you should be having a days rest at least between runs until you are running longer regularly

    Aww hope it heals up soon :grouphug:

    SW, I was really surprised the marathon entries opened so early, I only had a look on the actual day to see what the process was, and I suspect there will be a few people offered places who've gone off the idea by then!

    Just did walk to work this morning - the route that used to take me about 40 mins is now taking 25-30 which is nice!

    I totally agree SW, Im one of those that applied, however its not the first time I have applied and I'm being realistic about it and starting my training. I can guarantee that 80% of those that applied whilst they were watching it, either won't stick to a training plan, and fail to finish, turn their place down if they get chosen or just not turn up? I guess however as the entry is normally oversubscribed 5 to 1 there should still be a majority of serious runners. I personally think the LM will gain from all those that bequethed their entry fee (probably by mistake as it defaulted to it, and if you had to go back again defaulted to it again) and maybe the charities will loose out with so many not so serious to run entries.
    Just my opnion of course and I could be proven completely wrong.
