    :hello:

My plan is:- drink loads of water this week so I am hydrated in advance and then a quick drink on the morning. I am the "wee queen" and therefore if I drink too much on the day I will be in the portaloo continually :rotfl: 30 mins before the race am having a SIS go gel and then every 4/5 miles as they have really helped. Jelly Babies ready and also a bit of chocolate :D Of course Immodium Plus will be my friend beforehand as well to avoid any Paula Radcliffes :o

In my bag for afterwards I will pack a Mars Bar, sandwiches and crisps as I learnt from GNR how absolutely starving I was afterwards

SW - I knew you'd tell me off :rotfl: I really really will join afterwards

I keep telling DH we have to start slow but I imagine with the crowds there is little choice.

Eeek - so scared now, got funny tummy....................

aww jb, remember that there will be lots of others doing it for the firsttime & lots of nerve...just dont eat different things that you would normally (ie go out for nice dinner with experements of new food!) as I've heard people have & come cropper...Its scary joining a RC but I would say you push further whe you do but then the competitive element can push too far IYKWIM & then ead to injury so like all things its balance!! Sounds like you are well planned & can ttally understand the immodium - I always get nervous tummy!!

JB - I wouldn't bother too much about packing food. You will get a lot of chocolate, biscuits Crisps as well as drink in your goody bag when you finish.

I am adopting a similar hydration regime. The only difference is that I will also be gradually reducing tea and coffee, which are considered to be dehydrants. I have already stopped drinking alcohol (temporarily of course!)

The crowds soon sort themselves out and it is tempting to run faster because you can. That is the point to resist temptation

  • CJ - thanks for tip re tea, I drink loads so will start reducing it.

Your signature does slightly freak me out though

Is that because it reminds you how close it is?

When you say offroad what do you mean? Local park??? Off to hunt down a tracksuit this week and get running!!
Welcome VSG poorbabe and sugerpants :hello:

Sugarpants - I just tend to get ready and run anyway, prefer off road as hate the road fumes so I'm much preferring it now the evenings are brighter. It's actually amazing that people either ignore you or say hello a lot as they seem to think runners are quite nice people and approachable. I get a real buzz from running early in the morning as it means I get it out of the way early on and sets me off in a really good mood, but with kids and work I can't do many earlys. As long as you have a good pair of trainers you can just get up and go.

Poorbabe - good luck in your marathon training, I wish I had started mine earlier with hindsight, but too late now  Hoping to join a running club after FLM - I know SW before you shout at me I promised, I did mean to but too scared ................

RS - brilliant walking, do I know what you're on about re the food! I am a mad eater when I get back from a run and will eat mounds of chocolate!!

ISOM - you been out yet? sure alternating walk and run would be a good way to start if you are worried.

As for me, well did 6 miles yesterday and managed a pace of 8min 30 per mile :j felt brilliant and it was in the snow as well :D Now having major panics about next week. If I've not finished this time next week I'll be joining the road sweepers.Aaarrgggghhhhhhhhhhhh next bl00dy week

Have also given up chocolate for a termporary period. Reduced mileage + eating the same as if on 40 miles a week= fat gain  So thought if I knocked chocolate on the head all would be good. Seriously, I had the shakes yesterday after hours without it. DH has suggested for sanity purposes I buy a mars bar - his sanity not mine :rotfl: but I can say now I am a chocoholic and I have not had chocolate since Friday night :rotfl:

Off to continue with boring ebaying now..........
