Hi VSG, welcome aboard, what stage are you at (of running that is, not bunions!)?
ISOM - just back in from ten miles, blimey it's cold out there! Did something to my back yesterday whilst gardening and was panicking about being out of action again but it seems to have more or less sorted itself overnight. Right, time for shower then lunch. Does anyone else crave really specific things when running/ walking? Usually it's cream cakes- I guess when sugar levels dip... sometimes salad.. dehydrated? Today it's er pizzaDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Happy Snowday :j:D
RS, I'm impressed that you went out in it :T
I woke up early, looked out and decided to get back into bed! Woke up again at 8.30 and it was snowing heavily so decided not to get out in it. Had planned to do 8 miles too so I do feel a little ashamed
I'm doing my first ever marathon in December. I've been running for a number of years but the motivation was slipping big time by the time I joined a running club almost 2 years ago. It's been better but I do struggle during the winter so tend to eat more, run less .
Now that it's brighter I'm finally, slowly, running more and planning to use April as a 'weight loss/run better' month, then start my marathon training from May. I reckon that should give me more than enough time to prepare and allow for any injuries as well as using club runs as a improvement/need to improve guide.
Hats off to all the FLM runners next weekend. I'll be watching from the comfort of my sofa (with tea and nibbly nuts) :T:T

Welcome VSG poorbabe and sugerpants :hello:
Sugarpants - I just tend to get ready and run anyway, prefer off road as hate the road fumes so I'm much preferring it now the evenings are brighter. It's actually amazing that people either ignore you or say hello a lot as they seem to think runners are quite nice people and approachable. I get a real buzz from running early in the morning as it means I get it out of the way early on and sets me off in a really good mood, but with kids and work I can't do many earlys. As long as you have a good pair of trainers you can just get up and go.
Poorbabe - good luck in your marathon training, I wish I had started mine earlier with hindsight, but too late now  Hoping to join a running club after FLM - I know SW before you shout at me I promised, I did mean to but too scared ................
RS - brilliant walking, do I know what you're on about re the food! I am a mad eater when I get back from a run and will eat mounds of chocolate!!
ISOM - you been out yet? sure alternating walk and run would be a good way to start if you are worried.
As for me, well did 6 miles yesterday and managed a pace of 8min 30 per mile :j felt brilliant and it was in the snow as wellNow having major panics about next week. If I've not finished this time next week I'll be joining the road sweepers.Aaarrgggghhhhhhhhhhhh next bl00dy week
Have also given up chocolate for a termporary period. Reduced mileage + eating the same as if on 40 miles a week= fat gain  So thought if I knocked chocolate on the head all would be good. Seriously, I had the shakes yesterday after hours without it. DH has suggested for sanity purposes I buy a mars bar - his sanity not mine :rotfl: but I can say now I am a chocoholic and I have not had chocolate since Friday night :rotfl:

I've got such itchy feet, can't wait to get out after the baby arrives!
Take care everyone, Ev0 -
Morning all! Its snowing here!! Just found out that my WRN woman is all set to go for FLM too! Slight problem here in that my hip is killing me...am decided to shift some ibs and do allotment & some swimming before I start running again - last time it all went pear shaped when I started early plus my back excercise group starts next week so am hoping that I can build some strength up and hopefully then all will be well...meanwhile will read my book but have been diverted by kite runner!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Morning :hello:
No snow here although I had to de-ice car from yesterdays snowfall.
Sounds a good plan re your exercise group etc, best to avoid being hurt as it just puts you off.
I'm listening to the Kite Runner, listened on the way to work this morning but then I don't want to get out of the car
One more 3 miler and I've doneWell technically, then 26.2 miles - but hey who's counting

Well done JB - have you got a strategy about food & getting hydrated pre "event"? OOdles of encouragement coming to you all, esp the first timers! I'm sure the crowds will be behind you and hear that the atmosphere is amazing but can totally understand why you feel so nervous - I'd be cacking myself!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
